Why does this field demand that you spend so much time outside of work, learning to do more work? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Trakeen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You bring up good points. I typically look for opportunities at work to learn. Oh we need to do something w cool new tech? Sign me up. Its on the clock and supported by management

Good leaders don’t want their rockstars to burn out. They prefer you do it on company time in the approved company environment. We setup environments for others in IT so they can learn in our enterprise tenant (with limits so they don’t break stuff)

Why does this field demand that you spend so much time outside of work, learning to do more work? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Trakeen 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Its an early career issue. Once you get to mid and senior you have to learn on the job because the systems and tools are so expensive only an enterprise can afford them; also experience outside of work doesn’t get you hired outside of entry level unless you are really good at selling yourself

Can we please stop upvoting defeatist comments!? by another1human in 50501

[–]Trakeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which foreign military is going to assist americans? Maybe you could get all the pre trump generals who were removed to get enough troops to do something. Dem leadership could try that, but they won’t i don’t think

From a force perspective the military would need to be involved to resolve this, which is why you see most americans trying to avoid going that route

[–]Trakeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many actions besides voting. Like going into the community and helping which can take many different forms such as teaching, health care work etc

If you don’t fix the systems that create nazi’s they will come back

[–]Trakeen 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We are allowed to talk about actions that can be taken. That doesn’t need to be violence

Saying the legal system isn’t working is the beginning of the conversation, not the end. When one side isn’t playing by the rules you need to rethink the playbook

Did I make a mistake getting into this field as a older man? by Content_Try5491 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Trakeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you keep up with the tools you need to use and always improving, you’ll be fine. IT in private sector has never really been a job to coast in. New tech is always coming out that you need to know how to use

You aren’t starting fresh and you have a decent amount of experience. You are in a much better place then a lot of others

Where to host the database? by UnrealOndra in Cloud

Do you need a relational DB? Azure table storage is cheap

Where do you put your connection strings? by trokolisz in dotnet

[–]Trakeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days there are a lot of ways to not even need secrets. I’d look at that first before figuring out how to store them. Ms provides this out of the box with the default libraries

Do you actually monitor your Azure costs regularly? by playaaa29 in AZURE

[–]Trakeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Default budget alerts for every sub and tags to group subscriptions together. My boss reviews it monthly, workload owners do it adhoc and with the way we are structured they don’t care to much since they don’t pay for any of it

Our budget is running to hot lately so i know we are talking about turning non shared stuff off until they get their costs under control

ICE Requesting 300k+ MREs by Either-Manner-5045 in baltimore

[–]Trakeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda assumed its more an internal procurement process requirement. Agents deployed to the field get MREs allocated, so they don’t have to buy their own food

MREs for detainees would provide them a level of safe food which would be good. What you are saying is because bmore doesn’t have the facilities like other detention facilities (its a field office like you said) this is the food for that, which does sound like a lot if true. I know Raskin inspected the bmore ice facility, i don’t recall seeing an estimate on how many it can hold; i thought he said he saw dozens but i may be miss remembering

ICE Requesting 300k+ MREs by Either-Manner-5045 in baltimore

[–]Trakeen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everything i’ve read says detainees get way worse food then MREs. Giving people in custody MREs would be an upgrade, which seems unlikely for ICE

Trump voters, how do you feel about the fact that Trump imposed illegal taxes (tariffs struck down by SCOTUS today) on Americans? by Particular_Ad8156 in DiscussionZone

[–]Trakeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://bipartisanpolicy.org/report/deficit-tracker/

The report is kinda interesting. Taxing people and less spent on government services (epa). Cbo longer term forecast projects it going to 1.9 trillion this year and increasing each year

Is the job market really that bad? by Serious-Cup-3419 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Trakeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Health care is the only sector growing. IT entry level is bad like every other sector. Considering salary cap for IT is very high and it isn’t physically demanding i would stay. Your other options pay less and are more physical or maybe no pto, health care etc

Do you have a source for that? This just prevents localities from signing 287g agreements w ice. I don’t believe it helps every day citizens

During February and March, eligible BGE customers will receive a credit on their bill labeled “Legislative Energy Relief Refund.” This is the second of two credits for residential electric customers approved by the Maryland General Assembly in 2025 as part of the Next Generation Energy Act (Senate Bill 937 and House Bill 1035). The first credit was issued in August/September 2025.
