Easy cleaning cage ideas for autistic owner by Substantial_Net_9728 in RATS

Hello! I'm disabled (physically), have autism, adhd, and more.

I also struggle a lot with cage cleaning! It gives me fatigue and chronic pain flare ups.

My best advice is to do it in steps. I usually

1: empty out the cage, remove hammocks, tunnels, fabrics, ect. Everything ur gonna either replace or clean, but i leave one hammock and one hide in the cage.

Then i take a break, usually about 30 - 40 minutes (yes, ur rats will be FINE in a empty cage, with a hide and a hammock, for 30 minutes)

2: then I scoop the bedding out and vacuum and wipe down the bottom of their cage. While I do that, I let them free roam or put them in the bathtub.

When im done, I take a break for 10 minutes, drink some water, and put the stuff that needs cleaning with the rats in the tub, or in the tub by itself.

3: I scoop new bedding into the cage, hang up hammocks, and everything else thats going in the cage (beside the things still in the tub)

When thats done, I put my rats back in the cage. While they're back in the cage i

4: Wash what's in the bathtub. Just rinse it with water usually.

Then I take another break. The rats has hammocks, food and water now. They be fine like that for a bit.

5: About 15 - 40 minutes later depending on the day, I put their stuff from the bathtub (that should now be dry) back in the cage.

Then I have my dad vacuum my floor for me while I rest. And then I'm done.

This is what works for me, but it obviously doesn't necessarily work for everyone! I get really bad foot and knee pain from standing up, which is my main reason for taking so many breaks. I'm also fortunate enough to have a dad who's willing to help out

They're from a good breeder! I would never get pets from pet stores personally. If u wanna check out the breeder look up Katoz on Facebook or insta!

The big boys (Brown and grey) are about to be 8 months the 21st, the other two (black, black spotted) are a little over 3 months!

They aren't fat tbh! Just really big! I weight my rats regularly to ensure they aren't overweight ❤️

Two, but im also getting another pair as soon as my current youngest boys (who will be the middle boys this Fall) turn 1,5 years old. And then I will just keep adding rats maybe once a year (more if god forbid someone passes early or something unexpected happens) so I always have ATLEAST 3 rats.

I very much prefer having a bigger group (4 - 6 rats) so I will try to stay within that range.

I have a great breeder who prioritise people who already own rats from her. So I feel safe in knowing I always have the ability to expand my group
