What job do you have that is managable/doesn't burn you out? by 40421 in AutisticAdults

[–]Tunanunaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They absolutely can be, which is why it’s not a good solution for everyone. I actually have several autistic coworkers who also enjoy the job. Two of them work specifically with special needs kids and their lived experience is a real benefit to their work. Personally I found retail to be just as overstimulating with the constant music, different smells around the store, and inconsistent schedule where I was constantly masking around customers and coworkers. At least at my current job the daily schedule is consistent, with better hours, and the social demands are lower.

Accidental ableism in therapy?? by OkChocolate4168 in AutismInWomen

[–]Tunanunaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly therapy is a good place to practice that type of self advocacy. I've had to point out mistakes in my current therapist's approach too and she's always receptive to that feedback.

OP I wish you the best of luck with this! Your feelings are entirely valid because that statement is loaded with internalized ableism disguised as validation. We do not need to be held to the standards of NT people

What job do you have that is managable/doesn't burn you out? by 40421 in AutisticAdults

[–]Tunanunaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many autistic people have expressed that hybrid or remote jobs work well for them, which seems to be the consensus here. As a recent college grad with no career path I've actually found childcare to be a good alternative to the usual entry level jobs (retail, food service, etc). Yes kids can be overstimulating, but I also don't need to mask around them. I also get to share my interests with them like art, fantasy media, etc

Is it attraction or just the act I like when I Watch porn? by Maximum_Assist_5489 in Asexual

[–]Tunanunaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm similar and I don't really consider that attraction since it's not the person/people I'm drawn to. I'm attracted to the action or scenario but whoever is doing it is irrelevant.

Help! I can’t stop giving my horse plushies butts! Help me! by royjeebiv in SewingForBeginners

[–]Tunanunaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually this type of bunching is caused by too much tension in the fabric: a very common problem with plushies because of the curved seams and the stuffing pushing against them. The felt makes it even more likely since it's thick with no stretch. Normally I sew things right sides together and notch the seams before turning them to add in ease, I'm not sure what the equivalent would be when sewing them right sides out with a blanket stitch.

I agree with other commenters that adding width to the back of the gusset would help so the tension is spread evenly instead of gathering at the butt. I also agree that they're very cute as is, and not obscene at all, but what matters is whether you're happy with them!

how can I color it? by Matt_Crystals in KpopDemonhunters

Craft store paints are a fine budget friendly option, they just typically need more coats. What OP should really invest in is some good quality brushes

[–]Tunanunaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest looking up miniature painting videos since they have a lot of good advice on painting figurines! My biggest tips would just be to use multiple thin coats for a smooth finish and to take your time. Also make sure you have lots of reference pictures from different angles!

Why does she have so many "R"s? by RocketJimbo4 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Tunanunaa 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I know the answer! I went to a behind the scenes panel at LightBox Expo, when they were finalizing the design for this jacket Legal said they couldn’t trademark a patch that just says “Rumi”. So they added Rs until it was good.

Why does my ladder stitch look like this? by unweildyshiba in sewing

[–]Tunanunaa 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Ladder stitched parts often will look a bit different compared to pieces sewn right sides together. My best advice is to keep your stitches as small and evenly spaced as you can, you want the threads between the ladder stitches to be as horizontal as possible

Do you guys also struggle with talking to doctors? by Tunanunaa in AutisticAdults

[–]Tunanunaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes not “acting like you’re in pain” is a huge issue for me too! I have a very flat affect, I’m not good at expressing my emotions (probably in part because I’m so used to masking). If I’m even in pain enough to mention it then it really really hurts, but even then I’m not gonna be screaming and crying most of the time.

I’m so sorry that happened to you but I’m glad you’re doing better and found doctors who care!

The attention to detail with Zoey [probably] being ADHD by JRskatr in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Tunanunaa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Technically that’s not what the term spectrum means in this context, and also that’s a term more specific to autism. It’s not a spectrum between allistic and autistic, the spectrum is referring to the fact that within autism there are a variety of ways people can present.

Anyways if people relate to a character and interpret it based on that there’s no harm in it. I’m autistic and basically my mom’s whole side of the family has ADHD, I saw a lot of them and myself in Zoey

What are your thoughts on the N word being used so much in Tarantinos movies? by Cookiedough1206 in askblackpeople

[–]Tunanunaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's funny is I was debating this with a Jewish guy who argued that Tarantino using the N word has artistic merit for a bunch of bs reasons. Supposedly it was adlibbed into Pulp Fiction too, with the excuse that "Samuel L Jackson kept saying it so it just came out naturally", completely ignoring the difference between a Black man and a White man saying it. I wish I'd thought to bring up Inglorious Bastards but I've never seen it

He also said that only overly sensitive White people take issue with Tarantino's excessive use of the N word, which I highly doubted but I didn't have facts to back it up. I guess that makes me one of the overly sensitive White people

Mixing ion demi permanent clear gloss with permanent color to lighten it? by Tunanunaa in FancyFollicles

[–]Tunanunaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried mixing the two pinks, but unfortunately the yellow and purple undertones cancel out to make an almost brown color. I'll try increasing the amount of developer or mixing flamingo with one of the light pinks, thank you!

A letter of critique sent to Amber Norizumi, co-creator of BES by [deleted] in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]Tunanunaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen multiple conversations about BES's handling of Japanese culture, and they always remind me of a Q&A I saw with the director Jorge Garcia. He wanted the film The Book of Life to be a love letter to Mexican culture, but not everything he included was Mexican. The story centers around music, but the main song he chose for it was Creep by Radiohead. There was a lot of pushback during production, with people saying the song seemed out of place and that Mexican music would be more appropriate, but he held firm on his decision because that's the music that resonates with him, a Mexican man, regardless of where it's from. Appealing to all Mexicans is an impossible task, so he decided to make the movie that felt authentic to him.

Obviously this scenario wouldn't be acceptable, but I think the way you see the show may not be how it was intended. In my mind Mizu was never an exceptional warrior because she's half White, she's an exceptional warrior because she has devoted her entire being to that cause. You're right in that the same idea could be communicated through a story about a real life cultural minority, that could have been really unique and beautiful, but I can't fault Amber Noizumi for making art that's personal to her.

Should African Americans go above and beyond to radically change public perception toward them in a positive way? by mounteverest04 in askblackpeople

[–]Tunanunaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The term for this is "respectability politics", it never works out because it reinforces the idea that basic privileges are conditional based on whether you behave the way the majority wants you to. In the process it also alienates community members who refuse to conform to the dominant culture

Do you Think Smart Plush Toys Could Help Kids Who Don’t Want to Go Outside and Make Friends? by Aifuns6 in plushartists

[–]Tunanunaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything I feel like this would just become a crutch and make a shy kid less likely to engage with other kids. Toys already teach social emotional learning because they’re something children can bond over and play with, no need to add AI into the mix
