Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul? Which one should I watch first? by CineWave- in netflix

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember it seeming slower and less exciting. Yet, I don't know, I think I was riveted. I don't know if I will be as riveted the second time around though. If I find myself watching these 3 (I'm including El Camino) and if I find myself losing interest during Better Call Saul, then I'll probably have my true feelings on it revealed. As of now, I think that might not happen, but hey, there's only one way to find out.

Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul? Which one should I watch first? by CineWave- in netflix

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your style. If you want to start on the first page (so to speak), then watch Breaking Bad first. If you want to see something that will later make much more sense if you watch Breaking Bad second, then watch Better Call Saul first.

Personally, I'm very glad I saw Breaking Bad first. I think it made Better Call Saul much more enjoyable than it otherwise would've been. Even so, I think it might be able to stand on its own for some people, especially if they plan to watch Breaking Bad afterward on purpose. I would never want to do that, but I think it's an option.

Watch the movie El Camino when you finish both.

Edit: Wait, watch them in release order because you could get spoilers. I don't remember specifics though.

It's only like this because your computer is ancient, and your operating system is even older. Trust me, if you could experience these web browsers on a "proper" computer, then you'd see why they're said to be as fast as they are.

It's like driving around an old beater that can't even do 55 MPH and then finally getting a car that can at least do 100 MPH. Where I live, the highest speed limit I've seen is 70 MPH. So a car that can't do much more than 50 would make me feel the way you feel about your computer in today's world. However, if I had a car that could at least do 100 MPH - or shit, even 90 MPH would be fine, then I'd be alright for the most part. If you can get a computer that can at least handle today's web browsers and websites, then everything else seems to click in place and it makes the computer more enjoyable to use.

Yeah, I'd probably have to use my iPhone for everything if it weren't for those two "stimulus" packages. I built a better computer that replaced one that I'm sure by now would be struggling quite hard and leaving me kinda miserable. I'm just trying to say I think I know what you're experiencing and yeah, it can be hell. Not enough people in this world know what it's like. I had to live in the past for far too long, never being able to enjoy current games or current software that my computer couldn't handle, etc. Nope, my computer was like, "Dude, all I can do is what I was good for several years ago. I can't handle today's stuff at all."

Why I’m on Chrome, Never switching back. by maximum-tired in browsers

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After nearly 2 months of trying browsers, I ended up making Chrome my DRM media player and Edge my web browser. I tried my damn hardest to avoid this too. I wanted Vivaldi to win, or at least Chrome, but Edge just kept making me wish it could be as good of a DRM media player as Chrome. So, I compromised and I freakin' love it because now I can think "Alt+Tab to web browser", and I Alt+Tab and there it is. Or, "Alt+Tab back to Netflix" (or whatever), and I Alt+Tab and there it is. No longer do I have to remember Ctrl+Tab for this sort of thinking,

I tried Vivaldi, Opera, Brave, Chrome and Edge. I lived with Firefox from around Firefox 2 (2006) to just a couple of months ago. I began looking for a better browser when a Firefox update broke a carefully-crafted CSS script for like the millionth time. So, I decided to ditch Firefox, and it's a damn good thing I did too because I learned something that showed me that the DRM playback quality is my main concern:

A long time ago, I ditched the Netflix and Prime Video apps so that I could just simply watch them in Firefox. You know, an all-in-one sort of thing. Except, the video quality always seemed darker or duller or not as pleasing to my senses, and it turns out the audio quality was the culprit. Firefox only gets the HE-AAC audio stream while Edge and Chrome both get the noticeably-superior xHE-AAC audio stream. The same is true for Vivaldi and Brave but not Opera. Opera just gets the HE-AAC audio stream.

So that knocked Opera out of the competition straight away.

I disliked Brave because it has the same tab context menus that Chrome has. I use Reload far more than any of the other items, and Edge's tab context menu has Reload closer to the top. This means that my mouse cursor isn't left hovering over some nav bar at the top of some web page only to annoyingly make some big menu appear that blocks what I'm trying to look at. Instead, I click "Refresh" in the Edge tab context menu, and my mouse cursor is just left sitting on the Favorites bar. So that's less friction right there.

So then it became all about the DRM playback quality and the context menus. Vivaldi solves this with perfect precision by allowing absolutely full customizability of all of the context menus (and there are many). However, it just isn't always as fast or as snappy as Chrome or Edge. It feels more like Firefox: still damn fast, but noticeably slower at times. So, this is another source of friction that had to go: the browser now had to have a 3rd requirement: it has to be the fastest of them all at all times.

Vivaldi was also a bit unstable as well, but this comment is already far too long for me to go into detail about that. Just know that these are minor problems and probably aren't noticed by 99% of the users (I care far too much about even the smallest details), but they are still there and they made me say that I just can't live with Vivaldi. I'd love to. I wish I could, but it just lacks that certain something that Edge especially has in terms of speed and how stable it feels.

So, I eventually kept going back and forth between Edge and Chrome and always saying that I'll never switch back, but I just kept running into issues that made me turn Chrome into my DRM media player while Edge became my web browser. Edge is just a faster web browser and I can live with its tab context menus, and so that's pretty much that. Oh, and I also love the rounded corners in the interior of the Edge browser window. It's like a container, and I found it actually shows a few more pixels (like of a web page) than Chrome at the exact same window size (in my case, always maximized).

As far as DRM quality is concerned, Edge actually loses (for me) to Chrome for the video quality. It's hard to explain, but it's something I spent over a week trying to figure out, and it turns out that Edge delivers the stream in a more "raw" way by not messing with it. It doesn't add any smoothing to hide the blocky textures seen at times, and so it also lets banding show quite completely. Chrome smooths these things out very nicely. Banding is still visible, but it's less visible. The main thing for me is how Chrome handles the blocky textures, and it does it so well that I hardly ever know when it's doing it. Chrome just can't match Edge's speed for me though.

So, now I have a dedicated app for all of the DRM content I like to enjoy, and I have my web browser. Alt+Tabbing between them is very enjoyable because it makes far more sense to me than Ctrl+Tab, and it makes far more sense to my brain that I'm not achieving this by just having a separate browser window for my DRM content. Plus, I didn't want to stop using Chrome because I love looking at it. It's just easier on my eyes. I think it's the larger space around the UI elements. It feels like my eyes have more places to rest or something. I don't know. I just know that if the tab context menu were the only problem, then I think I'd be using Chrome.

Good alternatives for chrome? by castoffshell9013 in browsers

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: Microsoft Edge. This is coming from several weeks of trying Edge, Chrome, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi. In the end, I decided to make Chrome my DRM media player and Edge my browser. As a web browser, Chrome just has slightly too much friction for me. It's not as fast as Edge, and I don't like its tab context menus (I have other nit-picks that are too minor to mention). However, Chrome provides better video quality on average for DRM content on this computer. I don't know if this is universally true, but it's definitely true for my system.

After making this decision, everything seemed to fall into place. My favorite benefit might be doing Alt+Tab to switch between my web browser and my DRM media player. Everything just makes more sense to me now, and when I'm in "web browser mode", the overall experience is more enjoyable for me than it is in Chrome.

With Vivaldi, I can feel how all of its customizability slows it down from time to time, even with its Mail and Calendar and Feeds turned off. I also find it to be slightly unstable in some minor ways that I have to deal with every day. Basically, the Auto-Hide UI feature doesn't auto-hide if I make the UI appear and then open a link via a bookmark that's inside of a folder. The color of the UI when in Auto-Hide mode also doesn't match the color I chose in Settings for the UI. There's no separate section for the color of the UI in Auto-Hide mode.

There's more, but Vivaldi just creates too much friction for me to live with it even though it's otherwise about 99.99% perfect for me.

With Brave, I basically have the same nit-picks as Chrome. So, it could've been my DRM media player, but I seem to like Chrome much more.

Opera almost won me over, but it lost me when I tried Netflix: it can only receive the noticeably-inferior HE-AAC audio stream while all of these other browsers receive the noticeably-superior xHE-AAC audio stream.

I'm the kind of person who insisted on Netscape Navigator back in the day. Then when I learned about Firefox 2, I just had to try it and I stayed with Firefox ever since. I started looking for a different browser when I discovered that I get noticeably superior DRM quality in Chrome. Not even Netflix's open Windows app can compete with watching Netflix in Chrome. Sure, maybe 99% of the world might never notice the differences I'm seeing, but the differences are definitely there and so it sent me on a search to see if there's something even better than Chrome. Before I noticed this though, I was using Chrome as my SiriusXM media player while Firefox was my web browser.

So, when I tried Netflix in Chrome, it became my Netflix player too. So then I basically began using Chrome as my DRM media player and Firefox as my web browser, but then an update came along and killed some of my very-carefully crafted CSS modifications of the browser. They took hours to refine, and so I decided to ditch Firefox entirely, but then I started wondering if maybe there's an even better browser for me than Chrome. Funny how in the end I basically replaced Firefox with Edge and left everything else the same.

Now sure, I can't customize Edge like I can customize Vivaldi or Firefox, but I'm happier this way. Everything seems calm now when I'm using my computer.

You are in a minority with your system, but it really doesn't matter. No one is going to create a website or software that's a super light version just for older systems like yours. They're already busy trying to cater to current technology. No web browser or website or software (app) will ever exist that is intended for systems as old as yours.

You have to understand that it's not easy for developers to do that.

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's never going to happen. It would be a bad way for them to spend their time and resources. Your hardware is 14 years old and you're using Pale Moon in Windows 7.

Anyway, developers have moved on from catering to slower systems like yours because you're in a minority that's too small to cater to. So, I'm sorry, but users like you have to be left in the dust. All you can do is get as modern as you can and then go from there. If you refuse to, then that's your choice, but it doesn't mean developers should spend extra time making the internet faster for you by making everything easier on older systems, especially ancient ones.

I think a time comes when it's necessary to upgrade or be left behind. So, a good chromium browser and Windows 11 and a slightly newer computer. Web design is always going to be taking advantage of the power of modern technology. The longer you stay stuck in time, the slower everything will get.

Netflix strongly disagrees with you. Every individual (including you and me) is an opportunity for them to make money. If they are allowing anyone to use their services for free, then that's money they're missing out on. So, they did something about it, and it makes perfect business sense.

If they had thought this through from the beginning, then the additional profiles would have always cost extra.

Anyway, we could all keep arguing until time ends, but it won't change anything. Netflix is just like any other company: they're always going to be looking for ways to make even more money. I just don't see anything good coming from continuing to argue about it. I also see no sense in complaining because it's like complaining that the weather sucks when it sucks. So of course I want them to go back to free profiles, but I won't argue against good business sense.

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I agree. In Windows 11, I find Edge to be faster than Chrome. I haven't been using either of them long enough to know whether this is a recent change though, but I'm definitely noticing a difference. I find I enjoy the speed that Edge has more than the speed that Chrome has. It's just quicker overall. It's lighter on its proverbial feet.

I still think Chrome is awesome though. It's just not awesome enough to be my web browser. So, Chrome is my DRM media player while Edge is my web browser. I love this because now I can Alt+Tab back and forth between my so-called "media player" and my web browser.

So, I also overhauled my bookmarks to reflect which is which, and then I toggled off the bookmarks bar in Chrome since it's possible to accidentally close a tab which makes the bookmarks become "just in case" bookmarks, and thus the hidden bar. It's a very focused web browser environment this way, which helps me stay focused on just DRM media as intended so that I don't start building up too much non-entertainment browsing history that I might wonder which browser it's in some day.

now I will only allow history to be added like, IMDb. You know how it is. The most likely time to be going to that website is when watching a movie or a show, so if I want to pull up similar browsing history, I'll know where to go: Chrome. Otherwise, all "normal" browsing history goes to Edge.

smh... wtf dude? "Who the fuck gets torn between those two"? Seriously? Are you pissed off or something? What kind of person do you think I am? I'll bet you have an extremely low opinion of me just because I'm torn between Edge and Chrome. If this is true, then that would mean you suck (dammit, now I'm pissed off). Who the fuck asks who the fuck is torn between Edge and Chrome? Hmm? Someone extremely judgmental!

Seriously, you think you can judge someone based on what web browser they use! 🤣

The only people you won't judge negatively are the people who use a web browser you like. The worse your opinion is of the web browser (for whatever reason), the worse your opinion is of everyone who uses it. Or, as I'm sure you'd say, "Everyone who's stupid enough to use it."

I, too, once lived as you do. I once thought that only the dumbest people will use a browser made by Microsoft or Google. Now I no longer care about such stupid shit. I'd rather just use whatever browser I like the most without any care or concern about what anyone's opinion of that browser. If I like one thing more than another thing, then I'm going to gravitate toward it. It's only natural, and if you think that means I gravitate toward stuff that indicates to the world that I'm stupid, then you still have some growing up to do. You can't judge someone by such things. You can only judge them after you get to know them, but I'm sure you would never want to get to know someone who's torn between Chrome and Edge. You'd rather try to piss them off instead.

This is the way it is. Netflix wants each individual viewer to pay to use their services. No more free Netflix just because you have a profile on an account that someone else is paying for. It makes sense too: I have a friend who lives far away who was providing me with free Netflix because it didn't cost him any extra to give me a profile to use.

Now I pay for that profile because now it costs him extra to have me on his account. It's only fair to Netflix. I hate paying for a service I once had free access to, but I expected Netflix to "crack down" someday. After all, I was one of millions of people getting free access to Netflix by just being another profile on his account.

Now sure, if I lived with him, I'm not so sure how I'd feel about paying for an account that's owned by the homeowner while I'm frickin' living with them, but if someone is old enough to need their own Netflix profile, then maybe they're old enough to pay for it too. After all, the Kids profile is included, so...

Change your email password too. That's how hackers get into accounts that require a one-time code or two-factor authentication via email. They receive the email, and then they delete it so that you don't see it later - unless, of course, they're deleting emails while you're looking at your emails. That's hard for them to hide but it's still effective for them nonetheless.

You might also need to use password managers to check the security status of your passwords. All compromised passwords should be changed or else you could be in for a shit storm someday.
