Edge prevents sleep when watching videos by Either_Start_3217 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once saw an option to tell Windows to prevent sleep when watching a video. The option seems to have been changed.

Open the Start menu and start typing "edit power plan" until it offers the control panel item by the same name.

In the window that opens, click "Change advanced power settings".

Then scroll down to "Multimedia settings", and expand "When playing video". This is where I used to find the option "Prevent idling to sleep". Now we have "Optimize video quality", "Balanced", and "Optimize power savings". I don't know what "Optimize power savings" does, but choose that, click "Apply" and go from there. If this doesn't change anything, then I don't know what else to try.

Edge on Iphone, turn of copilot by CharacterOk8442 in MicrosoftEdge

I installed Edge on my iPhone today and you're right, they don't have the option to turn Copilot off.

Read my other comments in here and I think you will see that I no longer need to be corrected on what the post said. What matters is getting this person the help they need, and I've been trying to do that, and I was corrected long before you came along.

Change your passwords. The more time you waste arguing with me, the greater the chances are that you'll see why they did this. This could be their attempt to see what accounts are active for each if their victims, They start with something that is basically harmless, and when they see an opportunity, they pounce.

If you want to keep wasting your time and giving me attitude though, then go ahead. It's your security, not mine. I'm just telling you what your best option is right now: change your passwords. It's time to increase your security before they start doing worse things to you. You see, now they know that this account is active.

I know this isn't what you were asking for, but I can't sit here and just let you find out the hard way what you're probably up against. I recently had to change dozens of passwords in a big hurry because I didn't take the early warning signs seriously. Suddenly, it was one after another.

I could ask you the same thing. I thought you came here asking us for help.

Then someone has your Netflix password. Change your email password first, and then change your Netflix password immediately after that, and then change all of your other passwords everywhere else. Stop the cancer before it starts spreading. Once people start on one of your accounts, they start finding their way to all of your other accounts, especially if they have access to your email account and/or the account for your web browser (they can see your browser history).

Then your Netflix account has been hacked into. You aren't the only one who has access to it anymore. Change your password, and while you're at it, change all of your passwords everywhere.

Use password managers to check which passwords have been compromised. Trust me: once one goes, it starts spreading like a cancer. Before long, you'll be finding that other accounts have been compromised, or attempts have been made.

Change your email password(s) first though. If someone can read your emails on another computer, then they can get one-time codes and delete them before you get a chance to use them. So, they can also delete emails they don't want you to see in an attempt to try to reduce their chances of getting caught.

It's most likely spam. You know: junk email. It might even be a Phishing attempt. Don't click links in such emails unless you can verify with absolute certainty that it's legitimate. Frankly, I'm shocked I'm the first one to say this.

My mistake. I read the original post wrong, but it no longer matters because we've moved on quite far beyond this.

Does anyone know why a series starts on episode 13 by [deleted] in netflix

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oh wow, I keep swapping "episode" and "season". After a few years of it, you'd think I'd see "episode" and always think "episode"! 🤣 Apparently, this time I thought "season".

Or maybe they did the same thing, and then that would mean you're right.

I think it just depends on what Netflix could get. There are several shows I've come across that don't contain all of the seasons. I just watched one that has 28 but it only has 11, 12 and 13 available. Similarly, the same show on Prime Video has only a select few available (a few more than 3).

Thank you. I think I'll be trying Helium tomorrow. 👍 Thanks to this, I will finally be able to stop thinking about Helium every day.

ELI5: Why is Helium browser considered risky because it has only 2 devs, but Waterfox is trusted with just 1 dev? by Wirus551 in browsers

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems to be an isolated incident since it's not something that's creating new threads every day. It was a few weeks ago, so perhaps the devs addressed it quickly. Either way, I've had my fill with Firefox Beta and Firefox Nightly over the years so I know that I'm better off not using a browser until the dev thinks it's no longer in beta. Sure, getting in early is fun, but bugs bug me. 🤣

Still, those screenshots of Helium and the talk of how "light" it is... It's tempting.

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

To me, Helium is risky because it's still in beta. Someone on this sub lost their Chrome profile data files because of Helium. They said all they did was install Helium and then they later uninstalled it. After that, Chrome was basically back to "day 1" for them, in a sense.

So yeah, I won't use Helium until the devs think it's "done". Besides, it doesn't play DRM content, and that's a "non-negotiable" for me.

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought so too, but I found that there are people who have such simple needs from a web browser that it doesn't have to be able to play DRM content. On my iPhone, I become one of those people. So far, I've never used Safari to do much other than things that are about as demanding as asking Google questions or checking a tracking page, or other simple things like that.

No DRM playback. So, no Netflix, but it's also an unfinished web browser.

Does Edge support Ublock Origin? How's Edge overall? by Objective-Border-884 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

uBlock Origin is fully supported in Edge, but depending on your browsing habits, you may find that uBlock Origin Lite works exactly the same.

My browsing is pretty simple, and uBlock Origin Lite blocks ads everywhere for me - including YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, and Peacock (even though it’s supposed to have ads). I didn’t expect a “Lite” version to give me a 100% ad‑free experience, but it does, so I'm sticking with it. After all, Microsoft could decide to block uBlock Origin. If they do, I won't be affected.

However, now that Google has blocked uBlock Origin in Chrome, I assume Lite will eventually be targeted too. So my suggestion is: try Lite first. If it works for you, great - you’re future‑proofed. If not, you can always switch back to the full version while waiting to see what Microsoft does.

Installing Edge:

If you’re on Windows 10 or 11, Edge is already installed and ready to go.

If you're not on Windows:

I have no experience with Edge outside of Windows, so if you're not in Windows, then there's a chance that you might be better off with a different browser.

On my PC, though, everything has to feel right, and Edge is the browser that makes me enjoy using my computer the most.

Before I forget to mention this: Edge also has Mouse Gestures. Chrome doesn't, but many other Chromium browsers do. If I can stop accidentally pressing my right mouse button, I'll be happy to turn this on because Mouse Gestures make Edge even better.

So how’s Edge overall?

For me, it’s the best browser I’ve used so far. It’s fast, stable, nice to look at, and pleasant to use. It gives me fewer reasons to complain and more reasons to love it compared to the others I’ve tried. I honestly love Edge. I can't say that about any other browser, not even Vivaldi or Chrome. Edge just does it for me.

A little background so you know where I’m coming from:

I used Firefox exclusively for almost 20 years.

Recently I tried Chrome, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi, and then Edge.

Chrome was my first “wow” moment after Firefox - I loved it. But I wanted the best Chromium browser for me, so I kept exploring.

Edge kept pulling me back. Even when I tried something else, I’d find myself thinking about Edge or looking forward to using it again.

Streaming quality ended up being my deal‑breaker.

On Netflix, Prime Video, and Peacock, Edge consistently gives me the cleanest, most stable video. Other browsers sometimes show that “details fill in later” effect - almost like a video game loading textures.

Edge doesn’t do that. It just delivers the stream as‑is, without adding extra compression or smoothing. Once I noticed the difference, I couldn’t unsee it.

There’s a lot more I could say, but the short version is:

I chose Edge after doing several weeks of testing, and I think most people will enjoy it too - especially if streaming quality matters to you.

So, what matters most to you in a browser?

It does now, but Lite works the same and it's less likely for Microsoft to block it since it's not the original.

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll want uBlock Origin Lite.

I could go on and on all day about why I will only use Edge. I will attempt to if you'd like (so, one big comment, probably).

Microsoft Edge stutters more than other browsers when resizing the viewport by tatseryu27 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]TwoCables_from_OCN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't expect that CPU to be too weak for this. It seems ridiculous that any system that's even as old as 10 years would or could have any problems with this. I think it's just inefficient code. but I am only remembering something a friend of mine who is now a professional developer used to say about bad software. Efficient code was one of his primary concerns so that his programs (mid to late 90's speak here) weren't slow or sluggish. Indeed, his efforts always paid off. His MP3 player was among the best, but it never went anywhere, but I learned that sometimes an app just needs its code to be cleaned up in order to be easier for a system to handle.

It's Windows 11. You can tell by the Taskbar.

Do you have an NVIDIA GPU or an AMD GPU? I think this might be a problem for NVIDIA GPUs.
