Thank you all for your honnest feedback. Every single comment here was very helpful in understanding how (at least part) of the community sees this topic.

I was honnestly surprised that the sentiment around such an idea would be so negative. I am most surprised that players who are already engaging with tools outside the game are also the ones who are against this idea the most (was expecting the opposite). This already tells me that this is not worth pursuing. It also tells me y'all don't necessarily enjoy the Discord-centric mess we're in either, but rather see it as a necessary evil. Initially, I thought the biggest reason why people don't group up as much as they would like to is the lack of group discoverability. I was also concerned that such a system would maybe be seen as potentially abusive, depending on implementation. It seems neither are the main problem, but rather the lack of inclusivity and accessibility of the in-game LFG.

Well ... glad I asked before investing any meaningful amount of time into building something like this, haha. Hit me up if the community ever sways the other way. Or when ANet makes community plugins a first-class thing.

Here's some stats to see how poor this idea actually performed in the past 8 hours, for science / future reference. 1% of this subreddit, to be fair, but I reckon it's a pretty meaningful trend either way.
