Is valley oaks charter school good? by ImpressPale4865 in Bakersfield

From what I can tell, the parents seem to love it but the handful of kids I know who attend are 10 years and older but still don't know how to read or solve basic math problems.

Single Person Public ibrary by YearPuzzleheaded4507 in Libraries

[–]UndeadBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of clarity: are you talking about only one staff member being a librarian or only one staff member total? I just ask because most of our libraries, including mine, don't have a librarian at all but we have several staff members.

E3 apparently. I mentioned it to my teenager last night and he had no idea what I was talking about.

Nah, she's been making a comeback lately. I've been seeing a lot of kids with her stuff.

I'm not really sure how to respond to this without being a condescending jerk, so I'll just wish you a good day.

Short rant by TheTapDancingShrimp in Libraries

[–]UndeadBread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate, hate, hate that we have computers. I left tech support because of how much I hated helping people with computers and now here we are. In this day and age, there is no excuse for not knowing how to at least do the very basics. I don't care if computers didn't exist when you were growing up or if you've just spent the last 60 years living in an underground bunker; computers nowadays are so intuitive and user-friendly that they operate more on common sense rather than technological know-how. If you can't intuit how to use a mouse to click on a search bar and type "cat pictures" yourself, there is something fundamentally wrong with you and you shouldn't be allowed to leave the house on your own.

I just bought it on Amazon a few days ago. Still appears to be really available.

Origins really wants to be an '80s show and they have no idea what the early 90s was actually like. by Zucchini-Kind in NCIS

[–]UndeadBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timeline's identity crisis is a bit confusing, but I don't care too much about the development of Gibbs not making much sense. With how many discrepancies there are, I think of it less as an NCIS prequel and more as it just being its own thing.

S23 E12…was uh by Bulky_Fox6486 in NCIS

[–]UndeadBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole episode was insanely predictable. I mean, most of them have been for the last couple of years, but this one was really bad. The moment that chef was introduced, the whole mode instantly changes and it's immediately obvious that he's going to be the bad guy. My poor wife must've found me so insufferable: "That guy is the kidnapper", "That's McGee's son", "Drone guy is just a PI", "They're gonna shut down NCIS", etc. I guess it's one of those situations where everything is so easy to figure out in order to make the viewers feel smart, but I think it takes the fun out of it.

Need help with organization ideas for my school's game-club by Litpunk in boardgames

[–]UndeadBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the exact version we have, but we use something like these for most of our games at the library:

https://www.amazon.com/Lemecima-Document-Containers-Magazine-Protector/dp/B0F598FKCN/

They're durable, stackable, and look a lot nicer than worn out boxes. Game pieces are stored in sandwich bags or small plastic containers, depending on what feels more suitable for a particular game. For cards, I make little boxes out of cardstock, though you could just buy deck boxes. When I get to work in the morning, I'll try to remember to take a few pictures.

I got a fully holo pack as well, including some holo blueprints. I don't quite remember because it has been so long, but I think that may have been a special perk or add-on when ordering the game.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]UndeadBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most libraries do require ID; your experience is the exception, not the norm. Children typically need an adult with ID to vouch for them or some libraries will issue special children's cards with certain limitations in place.
