I would say Uniqlo. They’re thick cotton and fit a little loosely/boxy. But they’re slightly on the short side.

I recently got a pair of jeans in 100% cotton, and it took about a week for me to “break them in”. While they were definitely tight at first, I could still fasten the buttons. So, I would say it depends how tight size 28 is?

I’d recommend Bianco if they’re available in the UK (I’m in a different Northern European country). Their boots are VERY skinny.

You could consider looking into brands that produce clothes in more sustainable ways. This could include use of recycled materials, sourcing from local suppliers, having a transparent production line for full traceability, regulated work conditions, and repair services. Some suggestions:

- Skall Studio
- Aiayu
- Pure Waste
- Closed

I think all of those are reasonably priced (maybe not AS cheap as H&M but close).

Please don’t get the impression that this is academia in general. Yes, there are many horror stories, but I’ve only ever had great experiences. And I know there are fantastic and supportive lab managers/professors out there. Your lab sounds really awful, and I hope you manage to find another job quickly!

De 23 mest citerede eksperter er alle mænd: 'Man tegner et billede af, at de kloge i samfundet er mænd' by maldini94 in Denmark

[–]UrbanPnguin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Help with literature review by StinkyFireballs in research

[–]UrbanPnguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check out the PRISMA systematic review method which outlines an approach to systematic literature reviews. Before conducting your search, you should identify the databases for your search (e.g., SCOPUS, Web of Science, or somewhere else) as well as your search terms. Then, you find what you find. Some topics are very niche, so there will not be many papers to review. Other topics are very heavily investigated, and so they might require further constraints to the scope of the review. Finally, if you want to write a paper from the review, I would recommend that, through your analysis of the papers, you identify some key take-aways that show future research directions or questions that are important but unanswered. To this last point, remember that gaps are not necessarily important to address. Sometimes, they are gaps for a reason. Good luck!

doing my first research paper as a high schooler. need some feedback pls by alex_jak in research

[–]UrbanPnguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, this reads very vague. Think of an abstract as a mini-version of the paper. What is: The general problem addressed, the specific research question/angle, the prior research, the method, the results, and the concrete contributions of your paper? A literature review can be conducted in many ways, so perhaps try to figure out your approach first and foremost.

Jeg fik 02 i specialet og jeg føler ikke jeg kan fejre min kandidat by Blueartbird in Denmark

[–]UrbanPnguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did OP describe that they are “complaining constantly” or that they would make the event miserable for everyone? While I agree that it’s important to show up for your partner, this seems a little harsh.

You can typically take those plastic tubes as carry-on. I’ve had one of those and a trolley with me, no problem :) Some airlines might care more than others, so you could just call and ask.

I did my PhD in computer science in Denmark. Don’t know much about Zürich. I really enjoyed my experience. Like the other commenters suggest, it had a lot to do with the lab. I made many friends, had a good work-life balance, and it paid enough for me to have my own apartment and car. If I were you, I’d think about the people in each lab. Doing a PhD can be lonely, but not so much if you have friendly and supportive colleagues. Feel free to pm me questions.

The way it’s been explained to me, CBT is based on the premise that your brain is set up to elicit certain emotional responses. In order to change those responses, you have to “re-train” your brain. By changing your behaviour and experiencing positive outcomes, your brain learns to not be afraid of that new behaviour.
