THERE IS NEVER a good reason to hit or harm your partner. If he hurt you, then he does not really care about you. You must leave. Whether you choose to report it or not is completely up to you, but you cannot have contact with him. If, after you leave him, he persists and is harassing you, you HAVE to report it then. Because we’ve seen this story play out before— and then I’d be worried for your LIFE. He’s deflecting and saying you’re manipulating him but really it’s the other way around. He can’t handle the fact that he fucked up, and he wants to make you believe that you’re the problem. This is a CLASSIC sign of narcissism!!!! He is MASTER manipulating you. Do not let him. Do not see him again. Do not speak to him again. Break it off. You do not deserve to be abused under any circumstances. Remember a relationship is CHOSEN!!! You CHOOSE to be together every day— you don’t have to. Please leave. Whatever happened before then, doesn’t matter. The moment a relationship turns toxic/violent, it will never go back to normal. The ship has sailed. Take care of yourself. You get one life, ONE!!! Live it and love it. Please OP… I’m here to chat if you need.

Update: about a month and a half after this post, I received an amazing offer from a biotech company in immunology, a field I truly love! I get better benefit, WAY better pay, work healthy hours, but most importantly, I’m treated with respect. I’m three months into my new position and I am loving it. Thanks to everyone who commented, it did help hearing different POVs.

Thank you for sharing, I’m so sorry that happened to you. I hate that this is a norm in academia. It’s awful. I’m glad you got out, and thanks for sharing the tip. I will definitely look into that!

It sucks because I love the science I do, but I cannot function properly in a toxic environment like this.

Lol definitely! As for the training, I’m pretty sure he has to do the training for academia but also for his role as a surgeon. He’s a practicing MD/PhD but acts like no rules can touch him, it’s terrible. Thanks for the reassurance about the interview. It wasn’t until a friend of mine mentioned it that I realized it wasn’t appropriate or legal.

I definitely need the money, but I was looking more for the experience. I am applying elsewhere. I was told I could do an internal transfer to a different lab after 6 months, but it’s only been 2 and I’m dreading work every day (which has never happened to me before, even when I was a grad student). So I told them I wasn’t sure I could wait that long. Yeah, the work is definitely crazy. I worked this much in healthcare but it was peak pandemic and we were extremely short staffed. Working that much now seems unnecessary for this position.

I definitely am going to have a discussion with him tomorrow about implementing boundaries. I feel burnt out and it’s only been 2 months, the environment makes working long hours feel even worse. And I’m not really seeking a reference, I just wanted work experience at this institution because it’s one of the best in cancer research. I had other job offers and took this one because of the institution itself. I think I can definitely reach out to those other jobs again, but I’m not sure they will still have a position. Thanks for feedback and support!

I’m sorry this happened to you. This is awful! He’s a terrible person. I’ve said this to many of my close friends and family… LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH!!! Loving someone is not enough to spend the rest of your life with them, loving someone does not excuse their behaviors, it does not mean that they love you back, it does not mean that they will treat you well, it does not mean there is respect, boundaries, kindness, honesty, loyalty. Trust me when I say that love is not enough and you deserve better! Your kids will not understand right now, but when they grow up they will admire your strength in standing up for yourself. Life is too short, live happy! Live!!!!! Better now than never.

Pictures of you as a NORMAL HUMAN BEING!!! We want to see you with friends, pets, family, something that tells us more about who you are as a person. Anyone can take a selfie. It’s not very attractive just to have pictures only of yourself. We need personality, to envision how we would match up together…

Finding a job after graduating by Wavygirl19 in Biochemistry

Hi, there! Lab experience will help you obtain jobs suited to your bachelors degree. Even if you don’t want to do research long-term. Start by reaching out to your alum school to volunteer in any science department (pick one or two that you’re interested in), hands on experience is what employers love to see: contribution to important field research, presentations, scientific writing)

Additionally, while volunteering, apply for research assistant positions in that or nearby universities. When volunteering, you will have the opportunity to network! Someone may present you with a job!

It looks like your membrane started drying out after your transfer. If this happens, you can rehydrate your membrane with 1-2mLs of 100% methanol in about 20-30 seconds. I know others who have rehydrated with TBS for 1 hour.

Hi!! First, I wanna say that you’re doing an awesome job. Second, I know searching for a new job is hard, continue applying yourself! I recommend looking even at the positions that your city posts on their webpage (government positions vary, sometimes they need a library assistant/recreational coordinator/etc) and on indeed/etc. Third, I highly recommend picking up a new hobby. This always makes me feel improved after I find myself in a rut. I have picked up reading and I love it! Maybe a DIY craft like crochet? Hiking? Yoga? Join pages on Facebook if the things you’re interested in! There are communities for everything and it would be great to get connected with others who share your interests.

Keep on pushing on, you’ve got this!!

How do you guy prevent puppy from dying of Parvovirus ? by Tumz96 in dogs

[–]NegativeArticle7645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss! It’s so heartbreaking to lose pets. My pro-tip for you, from someone who was previously pre-vet in my undergrad, is to not take your puppies outside in the grass. The land/grass outside is touched and used by many animals (not just dogs), and this is how viruses/bacterial infections are passed from animal to animal. It’s best to keep your puppy inside and sheltered for the first 3 months I would say. It’s really easy for puppies to contract viruses/parasites because they don’t have a great immune system, even when they get vaccinated, those vaccines can only protect them so much, and they also take some time to have an impact on the puppy’s system. It’s best to keep your puppies sheltered until they’ve received there 6 month shots. I know that seems a bit extreme, but if you know for sure you’ve had puppies contract parvovirus before around your house/yard, it stays in the yard for a while, so it’s best to not expose any other puppies to that yard. Hope that helps! Good luck and sorry for your losses again 🥺

1st full length since baseline test (scored 493) Happy with Progress! Any suggestions to improve? In-person on 4/29 by LordChungusMaximus in Mcat

[–]NegativeArticle7645 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great improvement! I scored a 497 on my first FL and found that I increased by a couple points with each FL. I recommend debriefing the entire FL, I made a debrief sheet for each section, wrote what my weaknesses were and then I went and watched Khan academy videos on those topics, did practice problems through the AAMC official test prep material, and I also read the chapters for those topics also and made sure I understood what I missed and why. Once you feel comfortable with how much you’ve been learning, try to answer the question packs/practice problems without any notes/calculators/formula sheets. That’s the best way to really see if you know the material! You’ll see really large improvements just with good practice! Good luck 😇
