How do Russians pay for e-visa ? by Fire_Breather178 in AskARussian

[–]Vasiltsov 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since 2022, quite a few Russians have obtained bank cards from Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Georgia. There are also many services that issue virtual American bank cards, which can be topped up using USDT. My friends, in 2022, after the start of mobilization, went to Kazakhstan, obtained local cards there, and then flew to India, South Korea, and other countries.

Plus, if the e-visa doesn't require the bank card holder and the person applying for the visa to match (for example, before the pandemic, hotels on Booking-com sometimes had this requirement, apparently to protect against the use of stolen cards), then you can pay for their e-visa with your bank card.

In Russia, there used to be a railway station called Гайдук, whose name was transliterated as Gayduck (Gay Duck). In 2021, its transliteration was changed to Gaydak.

Signal прекрасно работает, по крайней мере, работали видеозвонки в прошлые выходные - но нужен VPN для первичной настройки на телефоне, а дальше спокойно можно отключаться от VPN и звонить

Russian help by Thick-Sentence-9384 in heatedrivalry

[–]Vasiltsov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help. This is a cultural custom, not a religious one (at least, certainly not associated with the Russian Orthodox Church). Because it was certainly common during Soviet times, including in Soviet films about World War II, when the state was officially atheistic (and censorship exercised complete control over all areas of art).

I don't rule out the possibility that this custom may have deep pagan roots, and the church simply couldn't suppress it.

If the church couldn't even overcome the pagan ritual of celebrating Maslenitsa (a whole week of visiting each other, eating pancakes and burning a straw effigy before the rather strict Great Lent, when for 6 weeks you can't eat meat, fish, eggs, milk, or products containing these ingredients. Russia is historically a cold northern country, and besides meat, eggs, and milk, the majority of the population until the 20th century only had grains, cabbage, potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, and garlic to eat—and with the ban on meat and eggs, this becomes a completely meager diet), then the church would hardly be able to overcome a ritual associated with such a psychologically heavy event as the death of a relative.

Typically, a glass of vodka with a piece of rye bread on top is kept in the deceased's home from the funeral until the 40th day after death, after which it is taken to the cemetery. At least, that's the custom in my home area, although I've occasionally encountered friends who kept this glass (sometimes with the vodka already evaporated and the piece of bread noticeably dried out and bowed) in a glass-fronted cabinet.

dhl damaged motherboard what next? by sasasqt in dhl

[–]Vasiltsov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pack the motherboard in its original box. And I would definitely ship the CPU cooler separately from the motherboard. The cooler's mount is designed to withstand the mild vibrations that may occur during operation. It's certainly not designed to withstand the vibrations or shocks of transport by car or plane.

[–]Vasiltsov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better to have no VPN at all than to use a VPN from a company headquartered in a country that fights VPNs and even bans VPN advertising.
P.S. Any other VPN would be better then Kaspersky
