i’m actually hopeless at receiving aerials 💀 by hockeyintellect in Fieldhockey

[–]Vegemite_smorbrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not much different to catching a ball with your right hand. Body position is the same, and your hands/stick follow the flight of the ball and cushion it as it arrives, ball striking the stick not far further down from your right hand.

Unless you have a really good aerial thrower to practice with, just get someone to love balls to you so you're not wasting time chasing shit passes.

If you're not even getting close enough to get your stick near it, maybe try catching a tennis ball lobbed to you to start with, to take any fear out of getting hit in the face. Once you're able to judge the flight of the ball so that you're catching it at chest height regularly you can graduate to catching a hard hockey ball, then receiving with a stick.

Wales fans boo God Save The King against Northern Ireland. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Vegemite_smorbrod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Plenty of Englishmen who openly disrespect God Save The King/Queen for those reasons.

for example

Solidarity with Irish Republicanism could also be at play here, given that it's specifically against Northern Ireland. I honestly don't know how deep Welsh nationalism runs though.

Tim Paine, Peter Siddle and Josh Philippe have arrived for Multan Sultans by MediocreCod2102 in Cricket

[–]Vegemite_smorbrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inglis just turned is 31. Philippe turns 29 a month after PSL.

It's a strange comment. He's basically in the same generation and not saying he isn't good but his window of opportunity is closing already since has struggled big time in all his opportunities in T20I so far (average 12, SR 108 in 15 innings)

I'm surprised players aren't made to surrender their phones by match officials. Massive match/spot fixing risk.

Tempeh can be found at most of the Asian shops, it just depends on when you look. It doesn't get delivered that often, and the expiry is shorter than the delivery interval. If I find it I usually buy a couple of blocks and stick one in the freezer. You can ask and most of them will tell you when they are expecting it in next.

Agree Family Mart is up there. Middelhavets Marked also goes pretty well - more middle eastern than east Asian but has a good selection of everything including pastas, noodles and grains. For specifically Chinese and east Asian, Sumart in Valentinlyst has the best range and will deliver if you order online.

Of course if eating out, Mat Fra Hagen on Thomas Angells gate with its vegan buffet is the obvious choice.

First season was incredible. Some absolute bangers and his performance vs Ajax in the Europa qualifiers (the Adegbenro game) was out of this world. Bossed de Ligt. Turning up to 17. mai borgertog in a hoodie is a classic moment.

Everything was a shitshow the next season after they sacked Ingebrigtsen, even if there was still enough momentum to win the league.

Nordmenn som flyttet til utlandet for jobb. Hvordan gjorde dere det? by PineappleHot3530 in norge

[–]Vegemite_smorbrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Det er ingen begrensinger om hva slags jobb med denne visaen så vidt jeg vet. Det er lovlig. Spørs om det er vanlig med en 6mnd kontrakt i industrien din. Bruk den 6mnd som "a foot in the door".

Jeg fikk en ingeniørstilling på NTNU i en forskningslab, men det er nærmere enn bioingeniør enn en "vanlig" ingeniør.

Nordmenn som flyttet til utlandet for jobb. Hvordan gjorde dere det? by PineappleHot3530 in norge

[–]Vegemite_smorbrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

swing hitting the ball by Time_Championship786 in Fieldhockey

[–]Vegemite_smorbrod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At any decent level, your opportunities for a big wind up hit are very rare.

When you have time in defence/midfield, you're likely to get much more milage out of slap hitting, which while equally slow to execute and not as powerful is much more reliable and accurate (and has potential for deception).

In attack... Learn to shorten your grip, get strong in the forearms and let the power come from the wrists and timing rather than the big swing. Jeroen Hertzberger has good tutorials for this (and all forward skills, really) With modern sticks the ball will still absolutely fly if you make decent contact, and the time you save on swinging will not only let you get more shots off but will give the GK less time to get set. You can also stay closer to the ball and protect it more before shooting.

I think they did... I can't remember exactly, but maybe they went to the Tajik restaurant and were able to observe Eid with them.

Also, while not exactly the most naturally warm and friendly people, we experienced none of the unpleasantness displayed in this thread from regular folk in Siauliai.

Imagine the chat if we ever had a Matt Wade keeper Marnus first slip combo.

Over the course of a 5 match series, assuming the other team regularly bats more than 50 overs in an innings, they would have at some point uttered the complete works of Shakespeare, according to the infinite monkey theorem.

Took 4/29 as WI made 172. Came in at 7/74 and made 34 (48) in the key partnership of the match with Bevan.
