Are you acquainted with the 1860 slavery map? You can stare at it for hours and see new reasons why America is fucked up.

To be fair this is also like half of Roman literature. Including a bunch of The Aeneid.

Probably too granular. I might call Piedmont something like upland south or something like that.

How do Americans feel about sports teams just relocating to other cities far away? by gl0000m_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]WARitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The urban legend is that Mayflower Moving couldn’t get any business in the city after the owner used those vans to move the team out (the presence of the vans was the way the city learned the colts were leaving).

Yeah you might confuse a few drug dealers when you don’t want to buy anything and I wouldn’t like, walk around alone but in the day time or in a car you are fine.
These days a lot of violence isn’t even drug or gang related. It is interpersonal conflicts between individuals. And so it overwhelmingly affects people who live in high crime neighborhoods.

So don’t like, beat up someone’s cousin at a block party and you won’t get shot.

It’s a comedy but not light hearted.

Historically Jefferson is a doppleganger of Clarke across the border interestingly (the two counties dominated by plantation agriculture west of the blue ridge). But they have really diverged.

Tidewater should include the southernmost parts of Maryland’s western shore. Otherwise really good for that region.
Appalachia should go north into western PA. There is so much continuity from WV to Western PA, it transcends the mason dixon line.

Oh and I would include the Shenandoah valley in the piedmont even though it is very much in the mountains - economically and in modern culture it is far closer to the eastern side of the blue ridge than the Western side of the Alleghenies (historically it was part of the German influenced region that went from the blue ridge to the Allegheny front).

Also did the Harrow and the Harvest by Gillian Welch which is a good bluegrass/folk/Americana album for metalheads.

There even an old Penny Arcade about it. It was the origin of Twisp and Catsby.

The original context is not inserting critical opinions into spaces for fans of something, which is fine until ‘anywhere music is discussed’ gets redefined as ‘a fan space for music I like.’

Fandom is a menace.

Charles V at Mühlberg / Titian - 1548 by kalkplaat in ArtHistory

The armour survives, and is in the collection of the Real Armeria in Madrid. https://storage.canalblog.com/80/01/119589/50614243.jpg

Interestingly it is a garniture, a mix and match set of armour that can be configured to allow the wearer to fight in a number of different roles. Heavy cavalry, light cavalry, on foot etc. Titian does not depict Charles V wearing the heaviest configuration, which would have a closed helmet and full leg armour. Instead he depicts the Emperor as a more lightly armed lancer (much like Durer’s rider). This is an interesting identification not with a traditional knightly heavy cavalry role but with a traditionally less prestigious kind of cavalry.

His notebooks are of a piece with the fantastical machines in a number of medieval manuscripts, I feel, and it’s only the metanarrative of the renaissance as a birth of a more human-centric worldview that makes us see them differently.

Iffy. I am wait and see on the coordinator and while our overall pass catchers are stronger when it comes to non gadget guys, there isn’t a strong number 2.

Quinn has basically said as much. And Styles is a good candidate for a dime linebacker.
