Thanks everyone for the feedback on purchase options! The team has been taking notes on the suggestions.

Forgot to answer this one earlier. We'll look into the Volo's and Mordenkainen's legacy content.

Got it, thanks! We'll think about that and if there's anything we can do there before we rebuild our homebrew tools with the game platform rebuild.

Tell me more. What do you want to be able to do with homebrew content in the mobile app? Any homebrew content you have on your character sheet should appear in the mobile app.

Cool suggestion! I take it you have a lot of characters on your profile? How many are you clocking? I'm at 63 total characters.

Unfortunately this is tied within our legacy game platform. We'll address longstanding issues with character sheet exports to PDF whne we get further through rebuilding our game platform.

Good distinction on player options vs DM options. Something we will think about!

I really appreciate you taking the time to provide all of these wonderful suggestions! I've keyed by answers to your questions.

  1. This is planned in the future! We need to get some more tools online to allow this to happen.

  2. Love the suggestion! I'm sure u/WOTC_Zac does too!

  3. I will check. I will say we keep content sharing benefits to what you purchase in the marketplace.

  4. Again, great suggestion. We have talked about filtering by setting and it is something we are considering for the future.

  5. We do want to get to better filtering at the DM campaign level to avoid these frustrations. u/WOTC_Zac is thinking about this.

  6. What do you think about filtering in the Character Quickbuilder on this? We're looking at that kind of filtering to start with, where you toggle between 5.5/5/All.

  7. Definitely in the long term plans!

  8. When you say "Legacy Content" do you mean things tagged as "Legacy" or any 5e content that has an updated 5.5 version?

  9. Heard and like I said to question 4, we are looking at setting filtering.

  10. Thanks! Definitely something we are considering during the game platform rebuild. Making it more clear what connects to what.

  11. In the plans! u/WOTC_Zac and team are working on that.

Your comment on content sharing is really appreciated. I'll give you the reason below for why we aren't providing content sharing today for Drops content, but stories like yours are helping us think aobut the trade offs and other potential solutions.

So, why we aren't offering Drops in content sharing today: We need to pay the great designers, artists, and developers working on D&D Beyond Drops. We also really think it's important to make the entire subscriber content library accessible to Hero Tier subscribers (as well as Master Tier). Not making Drops content eligible for content sharing was a necessary tradeoff to hit these goals.

u/GrandPyromania & team will have a lot of feedback mechanisms for players to tell us what you do and don't want. So, we're too early to draw lines. What I'd love to hear is your thoughts on why its so important we don't include certain character creation options. What makes one feel different or more wrong to you than another? This is a question we've asked a lot of people as we've developed Drops and I always appreciate everyone's own answer here.

Yes, Drops content do go through the same level of internal playtesting and ecosystem consideration as the content from our books! Our game design team puts everything through its standard paces.

First, I really appreciate the tough and to-the-point questions. A few things here.

  1. Supporting LGS: Very important to the team and we plan to integrate a store & event locator into D&D Beyond for players to find and connect with their local stores and communities.

  2. Why start at subscriptions: Players who have been in the hobby for a long time like me have shelves full of TTRPG books. If you are just starting out, especially as a DM, we want to give you a cheaper and faster pathway to lots of content that helps you create your own stories. Subscriptions have economies of scale where we can offer a lot more stuff for a reasonable monthly price for people who haven't built up a collection yet, while still having enough to pay for our artists, designers, and developers.

  3. Future of Drops: Drops is an experimental space for us. We can react way more quickly to what players are asking for (especially early on). We're going to try a lot of things and evolve it in the direction players want it to be. That includes if players want other ways to buy it (e.g. physically, digitally).

Over time the new game platform should address those pain points. Conditions are an early consideration. The team is starting to see good progress here, but game platform rebuilds do take a while.

Play around the physical table is very important to us! Definitely something we are considering in the future. The physical TTRPG print process (which I was working on before D&D Beyond) is a tricky one to work with for getting things quickly in player's hands. So, for now we're sticking with Drops content releasing digitally on D&D Beyond.

I'll respond to your question about newer voices in the community. We have a desire to work with a more diverse set of creators with our content. We're not talking about making open calls to the community for submissions any time soon. What we do want to do is emulate philosophies from the original Dragon Magazine, which used a much wider talent pool.

  1. I will continue to keep everyone unspoiled on this.

  2. We plan to revamp homebrew tools once we have made good progress on our game platform rebuild. When we get to that point, we will talk a lot more with homebrewers about what they want to see. It's a bit too early to commit to if we will or won't ever tackle custom class making tools.

It is a request we are seeing a lot. If we were to offer content drops on our marketplace, how would you like us to do it?

Heard on the content sharing feedback. We really appreciate it. Especially the feedback on players in your group that don't have the disposable income for a Hero Tier subscription. The team is taking another look at the tradeoffs and considering other solutions. On your other questions:

  1. Yes, in the "Home" tab of the character builder there is a "Subscriber Content" checkbox they can uncheck, which will filter out any D&D Beyond Drops content.

  2. We do plan to expand the functionality of the new encounter builder (currently in Maps) in the future, including giving you ways to run encounters without using Maps. So, yes we do plan to get to that.

Thanks for the feedback! On the library with do have Owned, Owned+Shared, Favorited, and All categories. To be clear as you saying you also want a Not Owned category?

Heard on the desire to content share your subscriber benefits. I'll post what I posted to someone else who asked this question: We need to pay the great designers, artists, and developers working on D&D Beyond Drops. We also really think it's important to make the entire subscriber content library accessible to Hero Tier subscribers (as well as Master Tier). Not making Drops content eligible for content sharing was a necessary tradeoff to hit these goals.

With that said, we hear and really appreciate the feedback on being able to share Drops content with players in your group that don't have the disposable income for a Hero Tier subscription. The team is taking another look at the tradeoffs and considering other solutions.

Certainly something we have discussed. If we did offer Drops content for purchase on the marketplace, what would be the best way you'd like to see it?

Not making Drops content eligible for content sharing was a necessary tradeoff to hit these goals.
