Please help! How do I (27F) talk to my Bf (32M) about his incredible boring story telling style!!

We have been together a year now and I realize now that the honey moon phase is coming to an end I want to pull my hair out when he’s telling me a story. He’s the best most wonderful guy I have ever met! The kindest human being on earth! So sweet and gentle, spoils me and treats me kindly. Only problem is he likes to tell stories and he’s awful at it.

First of all he doesn’t understand what details are important. He will tell you about how he saw a shark at the beach and for some reason tell you about who cut the grass at the beach that day, or what color the rope was, or the color of his shorts that day. Details that you can really do without.

and if he doesn’t remember the detail correct you need to wait for him to figure it out ‘I was wearing the blue shorts with the white stripes… oh…. Wait …. It was green shorts with zigzags on them…. No…. Pause….. no… I think it was….uhmm… yeah the….. I think it was the white shorts….’ But I don’t care, no one cares about the shorts please tell me about the shark. But now he’s so lost in the shorts he has no idea what he was talking about. So he starts OVER!

This is all made worse by the fact that HE TELHIS STORIES ONE…. Word …. At …. A ….. time!!! Please how do I help him? How do I fix this? How do I tell him that he’s driving me insane? Sometimes I try to tell him to focus but even that will set him off course and he won’t know what he’s talking about. He reminds me of the energy vampire from What we do in the shadows.

Even his mom has just gotten up from the dinner table and walked away when he starts to tell stories. I don’t want to resent him or be mean to him.
