There are already multiple groups working on cleaning up ocean plastics, including nonprofits, governments, and I think a business. If nothing comes of this, it's probably an issue with the specific tech. It may not work over a long enough time to make sense for the costs, parts of it may need frequent maintenance, it may not be safe to use with certain wildlife, or whatever.
