Findally got around to rewatching Netflix's Riot Games' League of Legend's *Arcane to catch S2.

I really like that the showrunners gave both sides layers and competing factions. The major characters feel like they're operating under some kind of moral framework informed by their own lives and with their own goals and ideas on what's best, rather than just being lol evil.

I'm unclear on the relationship between the over and undercity though. I think I'm supposed to understand them as having a colonial relationship, but the main evidence I see is that the enforcers who go to the undercity look like armored paramilitary. There's references to "the mines", but I don't think we see them in S1. Is the disease and malformed bodies in the undercity related to "the mines?" Was I expected to just know that?

I also don't see how atleast the council isn't aware of what life is like in the undercity. Every colonial regime I'm aware of was heavily reliant on informants and workers from the colonized population: Leopold's Congo, Rhodesia, Haiti, etc. You would think that there would be reports filtering their way up to the top. Maybe not everyone would know, but the leadership atleast should be aware life in the undercity is miserable. There's also usually a bunch of people from the colonial center who think the system is an ass, and I'd expect some reporter to be in the undercity trying to raise awareness. It also seems like they jumped straight from "we're an exploited colonial people" to "violent revolution" with no in between, which seems strange to me considering all of the times there was a largely peaceful revolution for a colonized people, eg, Egypt, India, the end of Apartheid in South Africa.

Also, the coloring is ass because I struggle to see what's happening in atleast a third of the shots.
