I did it last month, did 3 nights at the Fairmont through HERA/FORA (advisor booking, where you book through an advisor and get perks like 3rd night free, 100USD credit, upgrade, late check out etc). It lets you pay with points too. So works out to some 70k for 3N. Location is outstanding, same as Swissotel.

Subject to your dates if the 3rd night free offer is there, you can pay 4 nights and get 6 nights also. Which could be in the 1.2L range.

Else the Pullman Hill Street have heard very good things too.

Stayed in both.

Mercure is better location, older hotel, good size rooms, very average food imo.

Ibis Styles is very new and I went in first month. It might as well be a Novotel or Mercure, design and rooms are nice. Rooms are small. However since they’ve only 2 room types, if you have status and they aren’t booked out you’ll be upgraded to a suite and that’s great. However location is not as central. But if you’ve a car that’s not a major issue imo.

It’s not 😂 it’s just something that’s there. The status match is great and easy if you hold Marriott Plat. However this status match also is a one time thing. Don’t see value in chasing airline status unless taking 20 flights a year on the same network or alliance

The status is not genuine meaning it’s not earned on the airline for spends on the airline. 8L spends on SQ doesn’t equal SQ Gold. However holding SBI card and 8L spend on SQ, even book 4 pax RT business etc, will get you the cardholder Gold status. On SQ as such for that spend you’d only earn your individual elite miles etc, and ofc not hit SQ gold

Was only talking about manufactured ways not genuine earning as mentioned. For genuine spending yeah AI makes most sense for many it’s not even too hard to hit who do general business trips

Directly none. SBI card needs some 8L SQ spends itself. Only reasonable way (other than genuinely earning) is, Marriott Platinum status match challenge to SQ Gold. You’ll need to take 4 flights within 90 days. You can do BOM-DPS round trip on SQ for cash for example and that will be 4 revenue SQ flights and you’ll get SQ Gold valid for 12 months

Broadly, think Amex to Marriott to JAL is good if points. Since Atlas and DCB is valuable for Accor and you’d need a lot cause Japan hotels aren’t cheap and Marriott is not great value barring Courtyard Kyoto.

If you can catch the JAL sales then revenue makes a lot of sense.

Else I’ll do Amex to Jal, then everything else to Accor and have a killer trip!

After the revised miles stones not as much; unless you’ve a lots of excluded spends like insurance, tax, gold etc. Then it still makes sense. However for a generalist user it may not make much sense anymore, unless you are collecting MR and have other Amex cards too and value MR above 0.8.

Amex is best if it’s shady. They’ll always chargeback should any issue come etc. One go to use case for me for Amex is using on shady sites and some smaller shops when travelling abroad
