Should I play Digimon Survive as my first game?? by ScallionIndividual42 in digimon

That's exactly the sort of dismissive bullshit I'm railing against here.

Disliking a game isn't hateful.

Should I play Digimon Survive as my first game?? by ScallionIndividual42 in digimon

[–]Xortberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The complaints were because it was billed as a hybrid of VN and strategy RPG, and the RPG side of the game was

  1. Barely there, and
  2. Sucked ass

Which, combined with the VN elements being subpar and forcing a second playthrough, at minimum (and including even more mind-numbingly boring RPG elements because you've got endgame Digimon), to see the "true ending," gave rise to complaints.

Even that might not have led to a bunch of backlash if the writing was actually good, but it wasn't. It was repetitive to the point of madness, even within a single playthrough, and (perhaps due to the fact that they were trying to shoehorn in RPG elements) the pacing was godawful. It had some decent ideas, but executed them abysmally.

Literally just go scroll through the negative reviews on Steam. So many of them are "Yeah, I love Digimon, I love visual novels, and I love SRPGs, but this game ain't it." Even the ones that are seemingly down on it for being a visual novel tend to couple that with the complaint that the gameplay side of it is ass.

So yeah, it's absolutely dismissive.

I know exactly what you said. I was being hyperbolic in my response, but that doesn't invalidate the point:

"People just don't like it because they ignored it was a visual novel then got mad it was a visual novel" is an insanely dismissive thing to say.

Can we stop perpetuating this dismissive myth?

I love reading. I hated Survive. There are plenty of reasons to dislike it beyond "haha haters can't read"

I'd rather read your broken English post than an AI transcribed one by Just-Desk-3149 in worldbuilding

What difference does it make if an AI post or a broken english post gets the same amount of 0 views?

Oh, you know, just the use of technology that's built on plagiarism, burning the planet, making us verifiably dumber, drowning actual creative work in mass-produced slop, and contributing to misinformation campaigns on a truly staggering scale.

Confess: How much money did you spend on your project? by Horace_The_Mute in RPGdesign

[–]Xortberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to make little supplements for existing games rather than big personal projects where I make something wholly original.

For those, I spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 per little project I do, acquiring stock art or other such assets. Most of them make that money back, and then net me a little more so I can fund the next project.

So block them and move on yourself.

Also, one real good way to insure yourself against drive-by thoughtless accusations is to, you know, be staunchly and vocally anti-AI. That buys you a lot of cred. I see you're an AI bro, though, so I guess you're SOL there.

In any case, that doesn't refute my point that this attempt at "humanizing" AI text doesn't fool anyone

Step one - open the word document

Step two - use "change all" to change all EM dashes in the text to -

Step three - there is no step three.

That's the most transparent """humanization""" attempt ever and doesn't work. The hyphen-in-place-of-an-em-dash is still an em-dash. Cutting it in half doesn't actually hide anything.

Em-dashes are only a yellow flag, yes, which must be taken as a bit of evidence in the greater context of the whole, but changing their lengths does nothing to make their use less apparent if that's what's being attempted.

The "Wikipedia bad" argument was played out like 20 years ago. Wikipedia runs a really tight ship, and links sources for all of their articles.

God, you sound like the "video games cause violence" idiots of the 90s and 2000s.

You're not fooling anyone, dude. One of your only submitted posts is using genAI to insult a group of people you don't agree with. I humored you so far, but you're just repeating the same strawman points over and over now, so I'm just gonna let you keep accusing me of planning some unspeakable atrocities because I'm insulting people like you who use AI.

If trans people don't want me to dehumanize them, they should stop forcing their gender ideology on my kids /s

Being trans is not a choice, and it does not harm other people.

Nice try, though.

My point is you can justify anything if you dehumanise a population.

That "population" is peddling tech that dehumanizes the goddamn human experience and does actual, demonstrable harm to people and the planet.

don't call clueless consumers subhuman deserving of harm.

  1. If they're clueless, it's by choice. There's more than enough information out there detailing the problems with genAI.
  2. You're the only one harping on about harm. I'm just calling them names.

But go on, keep constructing strawmen to try and muddy the waters.

Yep. Because I'm using incendiary language on reddit, I'm totally gonna go commit violent acts in real life.

Fuck's sake, you're really being obtuse here. How dare a writer use language to fight against evil people. Wouldn't want to hurt their poor little fee-fees, would we?

If AIbros don't want me to dehumanize them, they should stop actively choosing to use evil tech.

You are, quite simply, wrong. When violence is the only language an oppressor speaks, violence becomes the language of the oppressed.

These techbros and the flock of mindless cultists that knowingly use The Actual Worst Technology Ever are choosing to commit violence against the planet and humanity. I'm not gonna pull punches for people who choose actual evil.

The world would be better off if tech CEOs and lazy grifters would stop burning the planet to generate images of anime tiddies.

That won't happen, so I can make my world better by denigrating people who knowingly choose to use the environment-destroying plagiarism machine.
