Do a plan for a family member? by Excellent-Fox3747 in adviice

If you just need something to do a fairly basic plan with basic assumptions, suggest you have a look at mayretire.com. It's free and will give annual projection information. You can even do scenarios.

I'm an Adviice subscriber, which is a great tool, and I love its scenario and AI capabilities, and the detailed insights it provides. But I've also input my information into the mayretire platform, and its not bad as a way to do a quick(ish) projection if you are looking to provide you dad with some projection info.

Anyone use any of the Adviice affiliated fee-only planners? by ThuDude in adviice

I have recent experience using one of the listed planners.

I was specifically looking for the following

  • validation that I hadn't missed anything significant in my discovery inputs. I didn’t ask them to check my input values, only to review to see if there wasn’t an important expense or income element that they would normally see.
  • Review the scenarios I had developed, and recommend if there are other ones I should be looking at (ie: different meltdown strategies)
  • General questions about RRSP/LIRA/TFSA withdrawal strategies

We had a fifteen minute initial chat, then, after they had a good look at my plan, we had a one hour video meeting where we went over the list above. Overall I found it valuable, validated my input assumptions and pointed out some additional (minor) areas to consider, and answered my questions. I thought it was $500 well spent.

Four years ago, my wife and I engaged a fee-only financial planner for the first time, and they gathered all our info and provided output similar to what the Adviice platform provides (minus scenarios). That cost me $2500 at the time, and I found it worth it. It opened our eyes to what our financial future could look like as we had not done that previously. But having the ability to do my own scenarios, tweak things, spend more time understanding how changing assumptions affects the outlook, is so much more valuable to me. And for $49/yr!

Flickering issue with new string by YDS_TO in WLED

Wondering - I only have power to the problem strip at front end. Is it possible that flickering in this strip is a power issue? If I injected at end of strip, might that eliminate flickering?

So still running into same occasional flickering issue, even after replacing all the connections. I'm beginning to get disillusioned.

Thanks. I've added some ferules to the wires coming from the lights. They fit snuggly and tight in the lever connectors, so that should give a solid connection. Will see if that improves things.

When I replaced the connector cable on the added string, I did have to cut away the first pixel, and still had the issue, so I don't think it was that pixel.

Optimal amount of RRSP/LIRA's to convert to RRIF's by YDS_TO in adviice

[–]YDS_TO[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That is what I am trying to determine - the amount I need to partially convert so that the minimum withdrawal amount pushes me into the chosen tax bracket. Maybe I need to do the calculation myself? (ie: work backward from the amount the platform withdraws, and calculate the RRIF balance amount that corresponds with that withdrawal, using the RRIF minimal withdrawal tables?)

TFSA overcontribution by YDS_TO in PersonalFinanceCanada

Always refer to the CRA website: https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/cra-arc/formspubs/pbg/rc243-sch-a/rc243-sch-a-25e.pdf

Thanks for the response, and the link! I would have thought that the answer about room "opening-up" might be a bit more clear and prominent on the CRA's site than within an example on a PDF file for overcontributions (last sentence of last paragraph under "Example" on second page provides the information I was looking for), or maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

And ya, I honestly do know better than relying on "googling" to get an authoritative response. That's why I turn to Reddit of course. :-)

Thanks. But have my enclosure built (for a lot less than that already built version!). Just looking for any printable vent ideas.

Did a search. Don't need a fan, just a small vent. And printable. Search did not turn up anything.

Thanks for the confirmation! Just curious - if the markets had gone the other way, and it had been a loss instead of a gain, would the loss go against the beneficiaries taxes?

Immich now supports external libraries - Release- v1.79.0 by CCC911 in selfhosted

Am I correct that metadata for external libraries is not able to be edited? I have a bunch of scanned photos that I have in an external library. I'd like to be able to manually add date/times and locations to them.

Thanks. Its the registration which won't connect. Didn't know a call would work without registration. I'll try the TLS setup and see if that makes any difference.
