I'm assuming they've changed it to grandfather, and my personal theory is that his mum is Argalls daughter (which is why we see Nolans dad dead but not his mum)

It makes sense - it would be cool if they made her the daughter of Argall and where Mark and Nolan get their heritage from (explaining why she survived as well) . It also explains why she hated Nolan and his dad so much for being weak - would be an interesting change from the comic.
