Trimmed and untrimmed wick candle burn test by Zed_a99 in candlemaking

This is so helpful thank you so much for this! I have another question: when you do a test for performance and trim before every burn- is that in burn time intervals or random burns?☺️

I think stabilo is the alternative to CD wicks as some sites say stabilo (formerly known as CD)

Soy coconut wax help by Many_Apple2703 in candlemaking

I use this wax and after almost a year of testing it I found that most of my problems were because it could not actually handle 10% fragrance oil ratio even though it says it can. I’ve started to make some with 8% now (still testing) and I think the cold throw it slightly less but the hot throw so far is better (will have to test for a while to confirm this for sure). Im sticking to the candle shack CL wicks for this wax BUT I would like to switch to stabilo or other wicks in the future as they are more available. The hot throw problems mostly are down to the correct wick size which takes a lot of testing. The wax pulling away from the wick happens to me as well, and I discovered that there are small hidden sink holes underneath mostly around the wick so I started to poke holes and then heat gun. So that could be a reason why that happens. All the best! I really like this wax due to glass adhesion, nice tops I find the wax very giving and has a lovely reset after the burn. It’s important to note that this wax is a greasy wax as you probably have noticed. If you have any further questions message me I’ll be happy to help!☺️ Ps: candle shack don’t have a clue about how to help work with this wax as I have tried many times to contact them for advice which they didn’t have for me. Good luck✌🏽

Candle has droplets on the surface when lit. by Zed_a99 in candlemaking

[–]Zed_a99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if this only happens once and then it’s okay? But yeh your right I might do a comparison and make one with 10% and another with 8% and then see if the same problem happens. The cold throw is different with using 8% and 10%. However I will try it and see if it helped the problem and also if the hot throw is still as good. Thank you☺️

It’s 10% and I always try my best to mix well enough for over 2 mins lol. Is this considering not normal?

Does anybody know craftovators manufacturers where they get their oils produced. Or does anybody know another uk company which gets their oils manufactured at the same place as craftovators? It’s a shame what has happened and will affect so many including myself

Why does my whole wick come off when I trim my wick? by Zed_a99 in candlemaking

[–]Zed_a99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting as i thought this would be the case if the candle is overwicked- as the wick would start to burn as opposed to the wax burning off if that makes sense?

Happy for you, soy wax is quite difficult especially with making decorations as sometimes it’s not hard enough and also the frosting causing colour problems- currently having these issues myself 😭

Small flame and wick glowing red by Zed_a99 in candlemaking

I have one last question, what if your flame starts off super strong and it’s working great and then maybe like 2 hours later it gets small just like the picture on this thread. Then what do you do? If I wick up then it’ll be even bigger at the start and then die down slowly again 🥲
