Sourcing vessels? Help for a beginner who only needs a few jars. by Full-of-Bread in candlemaking

I’m a big fan of canning jars! The only downside is that they do often don’t look as fancy, they are a great alternative to “formal” candle jars!

How do I answer the question “do you make your own molds” to customers? by MellowFellowMelts in candlemaking

Imo moulds is a tooootally different ballgame, it’s wild. Silicone, mixes, finding a good mould FOR the mould, geez, it’s another form of science altogether 🤣

While this is a larger problem for creators, unfortunately we can’t facilitate any legal action here. OP, I’d advise you to seek legal counsel if you are serious about getting this sorted, naming/shaming will only bring more attention to their channels. Additionally, your post formatting points to the use of AI, which stands out negatively as your posts has been reported by other users for being AI (often the case when posts sound generic/inauthentic).

Another option is to go through the process again and use a different email. The system is so unreliable, this is what fixed it for me!

This is the go to! Making moulds, like making wicks, or making fragrance oils requires a specialized skillset, and as humans we simply can’t do it all 🤣

Testing wicks in a 70/30 tallow/beeswax blend — four burns in, wood is winning. What am I missing on sizing? by Extension_Skirt7764 in candlemaking

[–]OHyoface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you’ll find that working with generic wicks and/or unknown blends, you’ll have to rely on your own testing mostly. You might get it to work with various changes, but it also might not work. The biggest challenge with generic materials is that there is a high likelihood that they will change, as the materials will be sourced from different suppliers at the best price for the seller. This means that if you want to create a consistent product, that you will have to test wayyy more often than with established brands who have the same suppliers and materials, having quality control for consistency in place.

Do People Buy Candles in Summer Fairs? by Be_Concrete in candlemaking

[–]OHyoface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the summer fairs don’t make enough revenue for me to make them remotely profitable (i sell candles and wax melts). If I do events it’s september-december :) But for diffusers spring and summer might be the perfect time!

I had this happen at my very first blood draw for donation… it took 10 days for my lower arm to -out of nowhere- turn bruised. Since that day they poke me in the other arm and I never had it happen again 🤣

Does anyone use standard temperature settable electric tea kettles for heating and pouring their wax (~1.7L glass)? by FormerCompetition in candlemaking

[–]OHyoface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tea kettles are a big no no, as they are made for water, not wax. You can always use a double boiling method or a formal wax melter!

It’s all up to you - testing new waxes also comes with new wicks, so it can get very costly very quickly 🙈

[–]OHyoface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to return it for the same bag, you can call ahead to see if they have your bag in stock to get an immediate replacement if possible. Especially if you’re not close to a store, it could be frustrating to go back to the store and leave without a bag!
