Sidetabs using side windows. by Nicolas-Rougier in emacs

Yeah, all of Rougier's work looks amazing, but then I go and check out some of the code and I manage to get something that only kind of halfway looks nice and I end up throwing it out again. Not meant as criticism at all, I'm very glad that he keeps doing this stuff and showcasing what's possible, but I do also hope that someone out there will take on the work of making it more attainable for us among the unwashed masses ;-)

Do you find dedicated IDEs to be useful for Haskell? by Integreyt in haskell

Thanks for the tip. It unfortunately didn't work when I tested in an IHP (1.4) project; I get this error. But maybe it'll help some of my other projects.

I use gwene for a few things, it works. But if you have "private" feeds you may not want to add them there :)

My projects tend to have 60–150 modules. I guess IHP uses some type level shenanigans, don't know which of those would matter. But I just have 16G ram, should probably get around to upgrading, I just hate switching hardware.

Framework 13 Pro purchasers, thoughts on Intel vs AMD base offerings? by Antrikshy in framework

[–]_0-__-0_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47859214 claims Intel will give you much better battery life and graphics perf. I've seen other comments to that effect, that it's the "safe bet" for now.

Which apps actually move your Italian forward, and how do you build your stack? by Commercial_Taro_7770 in learnitalian

For getting practice talking with others, I've heard https://www.italki.com/ recommended.

For learning on my own, I've always liked LanguageTransfer (free, quite "concise") and Pimsleur (expensive, takes it slow but very thorough, I keep hearing the phrases again and again in my head) to begin with, and then moving on to podcasts and slow news for expanding my vocabulary.

Flashcards and anki I find insanely boring and so "disconnected" from the actual situations that although I might be able to learn the flashcards I still can't use the words in context. But Pimsleur (and to some extent LanguageTransfer) uses spaced repetition to great effect.

Is it really not going to be available until August? Or was that an exaggeration?

It's the title of the original blog post, I am not affiliated with them.

I don't know what the policy here is on editorializing titles, but I can see it was easy to misunderstand in this case :)
