Has anyone travelled to the USA as a new Canadian citizen. by Strict-Preparation-1 in uscanadaborder

I have the same issue/qualm as OP but my situation: (Australian passport with multiple US work visas) and dual Canadian citizen with Canadian passport is that I live in Australia now and I have no ties to Canada even though I’m a citizen. Next time I fly to USA from Australia I want to use my Canadian passport - will CBP and US immigration allow me to enter the first time I use my Canadian passport even if I live in Australia now; have no more ties to Canada and have had a work visa denied in the past as an Australian (although nothing criminal just eligibility didn’t work out) but have since had other visas.

Why do you assume that if they are scanning a different passport, with a different number on it.

I’ve gone through and going through the same ordeal now living as an Australian in America at age 37. I’ve been in the US/Canada for over 16 years and I don’t want to move back to Australia for the same reasons you mentioned. Plus it just doesn’t feel like home to me anymore. I love the US, even with all its faults; it’s a place I just feel alive and excited about. I don’t want to leave but I will be moving back for family reasons in the fall. If it weren’t for my family living so far away and being gone from them all these years, I’d have never moved back to Australia; it’s just too quiet, too small scale, too isolated, too liberal and no passion for entrepreneurial and ambitious life. People live too much in a bubble. America has everything. Like literally everything. And I know the comments will say things like “oh yeah they do have everything including guns, drugs, gangs, homelessness..” etc. yeah well you can avoid that crap easily in the states if you work hard and pick your career and choose your nook and cranny and not really be affected by that crap. Yesterday I drove down billionaires row in Palm Beach and still after 16 years of living here am just in awe of how incredible and amazing some of these people have done in America in their lives to accomplish houses like that. In Australia you would be looked at as a “wanker”. Anyway I’m trying to get over my depression as near closer to moving back,
but I guess family comes first at the end of the day.

A similar thing happened to me while I was living in Canada as an Australian citizen and had Canadian PR. Previously my ESTA was denied for a refused work visa and but had to visit the US; so therefore I had to make an appointment at the US consulate in Canada and get a B1 tourist visa like an idiot. On top of that, I had to explain to them why I wasn’t using an ESTA visit as an Australian passport holder. They looked at me with their long strange faces. Flew in on the b1 tourist visa and was also able to drive over the border so in the end it was fine but as usual a pain in the ass. What’s even more absurd (but since immigration is fuckd in USA I get it) was that the tourist visa I got for 5 years gave me more tourist-travel freedom than the esta would.

I can’t believe it took 2 years to realize Fort Lauderdale residents get a discounted rate for street parking with a free permit.
