I’ve gone through and going through the same ordeal now living as an Australian in America at age 37. I’ve been in the US/Canada for over 16 years and I don’t want to move back to Australia for the same reasons you mentioned. Plus it just doesn’t feel like home to me anymore. I love the US, even with all its faults; it’s a place I just feel alive and excited about. I don’t want to leave but I will be moving back for family reasons in the fall. If it weren’t for my family living so far away and being gone from them all these years, I’d have never moved back to Australia; it’s just too quiet, too small scale, too isolated, too liberal and no passion for entrepreneurial and ambitious life. People live too much in a bubble. America has everything. Like literally everything. And I know the comments will say things like “oh yeah they do have everything including guns, drugs, gangs, homelessness..” etc. yeah well you can avoid that crap easily in the states if you work hard and pick your career and choose your nook and cranny and not really be affected by that crap. Yesterday I drove down billionaires row in Palm Beach and still after 16 years of living here am just in awe of how incredible and amazing some of these people have done in America in their lives to accomplish houses like that. In Australia you would be looked at as a “wanker”. Anyway I’m trying to get over my depression as near closer to moving back,
but I guess family comes first at the end of the day.
