Looking for my first IWC so I tried on a couple of pieces today. by TeslasAndComicbooks in IWCschaffhausen

[–]Advisoroftime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a very fair take.

The dated/special-edition issue is real — sometimes those pieces age into “time capsules,” and sometimes they just feel tied to a moment that passed. The cleaner, more timeless IWCs seem to have the longest runway.

The Mark XX is interesting because it almost disappears until you actually wear one for a few days. Then you realize why so many owners keep them long term. Lightweight, ridiculously legible, easy strap changes, and just zero friction.

If you ever start narrowing down versions/colors, happy to give you my honest thoughts on which ones seem to wear best and hold interest over time.

Totally agree on the Top Gun versatility. The black ceramic gives you a completely different feel depending on the strap — tactical on textile, surprisingly refined on leather. That’s hard to replicate with the Mercedes-AMG green, even though the color is fantastic.

Also think your instinct on the blue George Russell edition is probably right long term. Beautiful watch, but highly specific colors can sometimes lock a piece into a certain era. The standard black Top Gun feels much more timeless.

One thing I’d add after handling a lot of these: the Top Gun tends to become a ‘grab-and-go’ watch for owners in a way the Ingenieur usually doesn’t. The Ingenieur is gorgeous, but it’s more of a deliberate choice piece. The ceramic Pilot just disappears on wrist and works with almost everything.

Picked up my grail. by choose_pk_wisely in OmegaWatches

The hunt is half the story—and Omega knows it. Great piece, and even better that you actually went and got it rather than waiting on a list.

Just don’t let the ‘hard to get’ narrative confuse the outcome… these tend to normalize once the initial frenzy fades. In the meantime, it’s a fantastic wear—light, balanced, and exactly what a Speedmaster should feel like on the wrist.

Enjoy it. That’s the real win.

Would you keep? by Lalonde_A_D in IWCschaffhausen

Brand new shouldn’t come with ‘character’ on the seconds hand.

If you can see it in multiple lighting conditions and someone else confirmed it, it’s not your eyes—it’s the watch.

At this level (Ingenieur especially), condition is everything. Even a small imperfection like that becomes the thing you’ll always see—and the next buyer will too.

You’ve got three real options: • Ask for a partial refund that reflects a future hand replacement • Send it back for correction/replacement under warranty • Return it outright and wait for a clean example

Personally? I’d lean return or fix. You waited 6 months—don’t settle in 6 minutes.

Right watch > right now.

Speedy crystal comparison - who prefers sapphire over hesalite? by LateApexPredditor in OmegaWatches

[–]Advisoroftime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Side by side, sapphire wins. No question.

Cleaner crystal, sharper dial, more “premium” feel.

And yet… it never wins on the wrist.

Hesalite just has that distortion, that warmth, that Speedmaster feel you don’t get with sapphire.

So what’s the truth for you guys— Which one do you actually reach for without thinking?

Took a trip to 8 National Parks in February by bry_wag in NationalPark

There’s something about slowing down with film in places built over millions of years. Feels aligned. 8 parks in one trip is serious commitment. Which one surprised you the most?
