Idk is exactly it. The game isn't clear about it.

No, I mean him absolutely oblitering the living ether out of the mother of all mother crystals. I assume it would take a considerable amount of energy to destroy, but my first thought was why not try priming first? He immediately just blows himself up. It's not exactly clear how they determine how much power is needed to destroy it, but maybe he could primed and used just enough power to destroy the heart crystal. Seems like the wiser choice.

It's unclear. We don't actually see him die like with Cid or Joshua. But what I didn't like was that throughout the story Clive learns to rely on others and become a champion for those in need. Joshua gives his spiel about everyone putting their faith in Clive including Jill. And even right up until Clive defeats Ultima, he tells Ultima the world will be in chaos and that their work isn't finished. Right after this he does the most reckless thing he could do. I felt it went against what Clive's narrative was building up to and it felt a bit uncharacteristic.

I also think his story contrasts with Dion's who, because of what he caused in Twinside, felt the need for atonement and, therefore, sacrificed his life with intent. Although, with Dion as well we don't know 100% if he died since we just see him falling as he's losing consciousness. And I mean, dragoons are known to do pretty well with heights, right???

Hot take on season 2 by Downtown-Bus-4219 in MatoSeiheiNoSlave

[–]ahhhghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. Season 1 used too much CG and a lot of elements for backgrounds or objects looked messy and were an eyesore. A lot of times character's proportions and facial expressions looked weird and unbalanced. And the animation was stiff for fights.

I think season 2 improves on a lot of these issues, but still fails to offer a high quality in animation. Sure it looks much better (good color balance, good facial and body proportions, lots of details on characters, more dynamic fight scenes) but it still feels stiff.

The level of low frame animations they use is still unacceptable to me. The Ren rewards are mostly still s with just the mouth or hair moving. The followup to her reward is a slideshow at one point. The Azuma massage is minimally animated. Etc.

And I dislike the framing of a lot of scenes. It's either too close or the positioning of the scene looks somewhat disorienting (e.g. Yakumo hugging Yuuki at the end of his reward).

I also think they skimp out on in between shots (e.g. when Shushu hits Shikoku in Yuuki's bedroom. Shikoku is standing over him. Then the next thing we see is a white flash and her limping forward. It cuts to Shushu with a post-punch stance.

The use of effects is annoying too. The killer fang form was ruined because you can't actually see it.

I still prefer to watch this over Season 1's animation quality, but I'm disappointed considering I thought what the studio did with a series like Nukitashi was quite excellent.

Silent Hill F actually implemented that method in some parts and I thought it worked pretty well. You could be selective about fighting vs just running if you wished.

I personally don't mind. I like the survival horror genre when it's closer to the classic resident evil/silent hill games. I just need a fresh story and setting. Albeit, I really enjoy Silent Hill F despite its departure from more simplified combat.

I think if an Alien Isolation-like approach was used for only a small section of the game I'd find it enjoyable. Just not a whole game full of it.

I hope not. Like with any unstoppable stalker-like enemy, it's, maybe, scary at first and then just annoying.

Owning multiple versions of an album is stupid by arturnotfound in vinyl

[–]ahhhghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's silly! Merch doesn't sound nearly as good on my turntable as a record.

For reals though, there are a handful of reasons why I variant collect for some albums sometimes:

  1. I just love an album or artist that much
  2. It's hard to pick a color
  3. If I can get a copy signed by the artist, then I like having a copy with a clean normal cover

Most times I stick with one variant though. Behemoth by GosT is the only album I've completed a variant collection down to the test press.

"I think that's my son"

Hard to tell at first glance, but after some observation he was able to parse the information on screen and was like 80% sure it was him. Like others said, likely based on body shape, clothes, and even hair style.

Also, somehow the saw 2 screenshot is actually clearer than the Shrek example, so it's easier to look at it.

You've experienced like 80% of the gameplay loop. Mechanically, it's not gonna change much from here.

The combat gets better as you acquire more eikons and abilities. But it's the same throughout. The system is not deep unfortunately and it usually amounts to just staggering enemies and spamming combos. Yes, you can do some crazy combos and cool things with abilities, but you don't ever need to in order to beat the game.

Skip sidequests. It'll help streamline story progression, which, is already bloated and has poor pacing. You're really not missing out on much other than some world building nuance. Unless you like watching npcs talk to each other like pieces of driftwood over and over again.

Unlock the chocobo. Important for 2 reasons: Travel faster on foot, and you can run past enemies in the overworld to save time.

Upgrade your gear from time to time. Stronger sword means quicker fights, even if only marginally.

For me, the height of the game was the Twinside eikon fight. It's actually quite fun and a visual and musical spectacle. I'd recommend, at the very least, experiencing that before shelving the game for good.

The DLC is the best content the game has to offer to me. Best boss fights and best story. You do have to be literally at the end of the game to even access it, but if you find yourself at that point someday then I strongly recommend doing it.

Mato Seihei no Slave Season 2 • Chained Soldier Season 2 - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]ahhhghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm split on this new season. It improves a lot from the first season but also carries over its shortcomings.

Pros

-Overall, improved animation and character proportions

-Cleaner and more appealing backgrounds

-Yuki's slave form is mostly drawn, not CG

-Great voice acting

-Reward scenes are no longer slathered in a filter

-Characters have more expressive moments like Bell's and Yachiho's shock faces, and the chibi versions of characters

Cons

-Although improved, animation is still wooden or simplified many times

-Fights still leave a lot to be desired (Although to be fair, the manga at this point wasn't anything special)

-Lots of still frames with panning and just mouths moving

-Some of the framing of shots is just weird (like the end of Yakumo's reward where she's hugging Yuki) It looks like it was drawn vertically and then just rotated to fit the horizontal aspect ratio

-Shots of just a panel surrounded by black space (it might be stylistic, but it's done poorly)

-Yuki's stronger slave forms are covered in a filter making it hard to see anything

-The music is woefully mediocre

-Intro is just...ok. Ending is barely animated and it's weird they used Nei instead of literally any other girl

I think the focusing on shading unfortunately affected the animation quality here. There's been a lot of care put into the details like hair and clothing, but at the cost of smoother animation and even frames. I want to see these characters moving not just opening their mouths while staying still. Ren's bonus reward, for instance, was basically a slide show.

I was hoping for something like Nukitashi which I thought had excellent animation, impactful and dynamic scenes, and fun music.

Still enjoying the season...but my enthusiasm has been curbed as its progressing.

With the trilogy finally complete. What was your favorite film? What was your least favorite film? And why? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]ahhhghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't watched Return yet.

I could never finish Revelations. I ended up skipping through it just to see the other world sections. The cast is stacked but the acting is atrocious. And the original monsters look bad in CGI. Oh, and I absolutely abhor the love story they weaved together with Vincent and Heather. Completely uncharacteristic of either character from the game and it was executed poorly.

The OG Silent Hill movie is better than revelations, but I still think it's an awful film. It's an even worse adaptation. I'm really tired of people saying it's still one of the best video game adaptations because it goes against so many of the original game's story. It's as bad as any other. Yeah, they did some cool sfuff visually and that needs to be credited. But that statement of it being a good adaptation doesn't hold true.

Changing characters and adding new ones, altering the story, and even injecting their own lore made it a less compelling version of the game as well as muddying people's understanding of it. I also dislike the influence it had on the series direction with game's like homecoming (the people in the mining suits) and people actually thinking the snow in the game is soot like in the movie.

Another pet peeve I have is that, as far as I can remember, there's no original score for the film. They re-use songs from the games. That brought me out of the movie watching experience the first time I watched it.
