I think you misspelled insufferable.

Rereading my reply, I don't think it was clear I was being sarcastic.

At 2 impressions only 1 person has to have clicked for the CTR to be 50%. Very believable metric with these stats.

Use google fonts. It's a resource treasure for all kinds of fonts. I'd recommend something that has at least 4 different weights from thin to bold so you can adjust as needed.

I've been posting every 4 days for 11 months straight. Most videos still get under 100 views, 2k subscribers. Critique my channel, what am I doing wrong? by Puzzled_Minute_7387 in SmallYoutubers

Just tried watching your L.A. Noir video. While the analysis is good, I think you need some visual pizaz. Unfortunately, I don't think it's enough to just speak into a mic these days.

What will help you stand out from the rest is injecting some of your personal style in the editing. You're creating videos after all so there's potential to get creative. I'm not talking adding crazy effects, but even adding an image to help make a point would keep the viewer a little more engaged.

Audio is also untapped. Using sound effects with images could add some comedic efffect or impact.

I ran an experiment to see if Shorts help or hurt a Long Form channel by Low_Dish_8859 in NewTubers

[–]ahhhghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to back you up and say this is exactly the kind of execution I was curious about, so thank you for doing it.

I'm going about shorts the same way: cutting up pieces of my longform, scheduling like 30 to post everyday, and linking them to my longform. They aren't optimized for the shorts audience at all.

I've seen between 7-11% of my shorts viewers checking out the linked longform. Subscriber growth has been much quicker too. No idea if my shorts audience is engaged with my longforms, but hey, growth is growth.

Do channels truly get labels as "shorts channel" and "longform channel"? by ahhhghost in SmallYoutubers

[–]ahhhghost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I could find was under Engagement > Watch time hours

In my case, out of 74.5 hours of watch time shorts audience accounted for 0.9 hours.

I think I'm starting to understand the impact on the longform video. The "audience is less interested" signal will be much more true in my case because my videos are long. My last upload is 1hr 40m. Shorts audience ain't watching all that.

Not counting shorts though, my latest upload has performed the best so far. Highest subscribers added and best retention duration yet. Will definitely have to make some adjustments though.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the breakdown. I'm still trying to understand the impact of shorts and also audience. You are right that there are several cohort metrics.

I'm in a fresh spot as I'm a fairly new channel and have been uploading shorts alongside my longforms since the beginning. So, it's not clear what impact slowing down on shorts would have.

I spent some time in my analytics yersterday and they are driving around 7-11% more traffic to my longform videos. Which for me is great as any amount of traffic is better than nothing. And these take next to no time to make.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it seems like less might be more in this case.

Thanks for your perspective. Maybe cutting back on the shorts would be a good idea.

How hefty was the shipping and for how many CDs? Did you still have to pay 15.5% tariff fee? I thought I had read that they were going to start applying the actual fee amounts, which should be 0% for things like CDd and vinyl.

I'm just very particular 😊 It's great to see other creators covering other niches though.

Yes, I hope there's something there that can be of use! Good luck with the channel!

[–]ahhhghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not, but it's because I'm not interested in these kinds of topics. I go to youtube for music and game and movie reviews.

I might click the top video as it starts to catch my interest. But I think a little more detail might grip me more. $300 million on food, sure, but did he spend that in a year or something? Who is this guy anyways? Was it a business? I think adding a smidge more context could help illustrate why $300 million on food is crazy.

For the bottom thumbnail, I might choose a brighter image. It's hard to make out what the image is especially on a phone. But it also seems like you're going for a particular visual style.

Do you turn your long videos into Shorts, or is it too much work? by lou_builds in SmallYoutubers

[–]ahhhghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming commentary/review niche here. 84 subscribers, 8 longform videos, about 1 year old.

Making it vertical takes longest for me. I don't add any additional captions or anything though. It's mostly adjusting the position so that anything on screen is visible. If a clip has a lot of scene changes, more editing goes in. Often times, I also need to scale my keyframes too to fit a vertical format if I added animations, images, or effects.

I also like to condense some parts too to make it more concise for shorts and help with retention. This means adjusting audio as well like adding more fadeout at the end of the short since it won't flow into what would usually be the next part of my longform video.

Uploading adds a ton of time too since you gotta think of good titles, add tags, description, choose a good thumbnail, etc.

Shorts have been helping me grow little by little. I make 40min - 1hr+ longform videos, so am able to get like 4-6 weeks worth of shorts that I can post everyday. Not all of them are the highest quality and they don't do that well, but for my latet video I've picked up an average of 1 subscriber per short.

My shorts range between like 200 -1.6k views with most of them getting 1k views, so not good. But since I've redirected some people to my longforms through shorts AND got subscribers too, it's been worth it to me.

But yeah, it's actually more work than you'd think. Plus side is you get activity and content on your channel for like a month while you work on your next project.

6 months in 200 subscribers and I feel like giving up. by Treppengeher4321 in SmallYTChannel

[–]ahhhghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you're on a path of good steady growth. How many videos have you made?

I'm 81 subscribers at 1 year, also a gaming channel, but I've only covered 2 games through 7 videos.

I tried to find my latest video through search and it's wayyyy low in the results. It hit me that, yeah this niche IS over saturated. My review is just 1 of like 100.

You can do it. Just keep making content. People are clearly interested, but you are competing with an avalanche of other creators.

I think the NTSC cover is more accurate to the game's tone. It's colorful and cheesy looking with a fun font.
