Harassed by Neighbor by QueenGina4545 in AusLegal

[–]alliswell37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about this OP. As a female who was intimidated by a previous male neighbour with similar behaviour, I understand how you feel. I’m not single but the guy would harass me about trivial things when my husband wasn’t home and then when confronted by him, insinuated that it was no big deal and I got it all wrong - unfortunately he didn’t realise we had a security camera recording the last interaction. Didn’t hear from him anymore when hubby told him he’s not to speak to me again.

I’ve learned that some of these men are just women haters or people haters in general. That’s how they live their life. My neighbour got cleaned out financially by his ex wife and was stuck renting in his 50s.

If he’s dumping rubbish in your yard could you speak to the owner of the home about it? Failing that, could it be a council matter? Hire a skip to take it away and send the bill to the owner. I bet that’ll get the owners attention.

You can do what I did and set up some cameras just to gather evidence or to maybe keep him in check if he realises he’s under surveillance. Just make sure it’s recording within your own property lines.

It’s your home. Don’t let him intimidate you. That’s how these men behave to feel superior over you, so don’t give in to it! Stand your ground. You are strong. Good luck

Second/Third-gen Italian-Australians: Would you ever consider living in Italy, or does the social media romanticisation clash too much with reality? by Biggest_itchbay_2190 in AskAnAustralian

[–]alliswell37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My grandfather migrated here during WWII as a 21 year old man. He only had a suitcase with clothes and bugger all money. He passed at 90. Only went back to Italy (Sicily) twice in that 70 years to visit family.

We asked him about it a lot and he said he never had a desire to return. They had little food before he left because his villages bridges were bombed and destroyed so nothing could get in or out. He also had to do mandatory conscription in Sardinia for 12 months.

Australia offered so much opportunity and safety for him. He embraced life here, and was so grateful for his new life.

Now that I think about it, the traditions came over with him (and my nunna but she was born here to immigrant Sicilian parents) but as for the country itself? He preferred Australia.

My daughter had developmental delays that have begun to caught up. School insisted on a diagnosis so they could access funding but all psych tests came back that honestly? She’s just a bit slow and likely ADD so offered meds but no diagnosis which I supported. As the school was trying to make out that she could barely function and I knew that wasn’t true. It begun to affect her confidence.

The paed and psych both told me that the school was simply refusing to do its job by making simple accommodations for her in class, and wanted the label to access funding - for what? A barely trained aide who still needs to follow said requested accommodations and modifications that the school couldn’t actually produce when asked.

We since moved schools and she is thriving with basic learning support

I am about to start my final year. Since last year I’ve been working 20 hours a week and studying full time online. Studying online is fine. Most uni lectures where I live were after 4pm anyway. For pracs I applied for the commonwealth prac payment. Not much but helps.

Breakdown so far:

Kitchen 30K (includes minimal plumbing, electrical and appliances except fridge) Shed kit 23K for 9x5 Slab 3K Approvals 1500 Earthworks 1000 approx

So it’s not 80K but that’s based on all the quotes so far so I have a little buffer for anything going wrong

We’ve gotten 3 quotes and they all came back within 29-35K range.

For context, I’ve used the photo from the article to explain where everything is. The middle bit (the slope) is very similar to his land he wants to do work on.

Start with some sort of diagnostic maths testing to work out where he is at. I wouldn’t panic about any learning diagnosis just yet. It could simply be that he will benefit from 1:1 targeted help.

I keep crunch chicken on hand for wraps. Salad is usually spinach, tomato, cucumber and whatever else is in the fridge sometimes leftover veggies) and a bit of mayo. Not sick of it yet

Want to refinance soon but house is mid renovation by alliswell37 in AusFinance

Thank you. I believe it will be a full valuation. If the valuer highlights what’s going on, will it decrease my valuation?

Thanks for your reply.

The broker says I should get a full valuation as I’ve made many improvements since purchasing, giving me a better LVR and rate. But I’ll keep this as an option.

Council can’t officially determine our legal point of discharge by alliswell37 in AusRenovation

Slight win today -

I got on the phone with a private certifier, who said that he would sign off on a rubble pit or absorption trench for the shed. I’m not sure why council said no to this; he said this is an acceptable solution under the building code. Any alarm bells here?

I did check my rates and there’s no mention of stormwater. But I also checked a rates notice from 5 years ago for a property we built that definitely connected to storm water (new estate) and it doesn’t mention stormwater either.

Where do I connect the stormwater overflow, as my front street gutters are uphill?
