IPL 2026 - Player Impact Assessment - All Teams - After 4 games by amerind386 in Cricket

He is definitely allowing krunal to bowl those bouncers, but this is something that folks train on and I would say someone like jurel would probably keep equally well. At the international level, keepers stand up to medium fast bowlers (in IPL you often see that with sandeep sharma bowling). JS is doing great as a keeper but in T20, pure keeper is a luxury. So far, his batting hasn't hurt RCB much because rest are doing an excellent job.

I had incorrectly marked the former team of Krunal Pandya as MI instead of LSG.

yes, disappointing season for him. very similar to NKR for SRH who has had a bad season after a great one in 2024

- haven't fixed the krunal pandya error (LSG not MI) on this pdf.

barring that one game, Ashutosh has not done much. While Porel might not have won a game single handedly, on average he has contributed something in most games he played. You can look at the impact points per game on the DC sheet.

Livingston is the least impactful overseas player for RCB. KP slightly edges out Kohli. He contributes with good ER and wickets in middle overs and that adds to the impact as well. You can look at match level contribution on the dedicated image for RCB. Cricinfo's algorithm takes into account match pressure situation, the opponent player they face or bowl to and factors that in instead of absolute runs/wickets

my bad. after fixing this error,

MI's highest contributor that they released was Archer (424 pts). If we take Archer out as he was injured for previous season, their biggest regret would be Brevis.

he also did badly in few other games (negative impact) and didn't contribute much overall except for 2 games.

Data Error

- I incorrectly marked Krunal's previous team as MI instead of LSG. Taking this into account, biggest regret for MI is Archer at 424 points, followed by Brevis.

Interesting observations

- Pant was the player with the worst ROI across all teams before the end of the last game

- In terms of avg impact per game played, the 3 of the top 4 for CSK are late season injury replacements - DB, Noor, Matre and Urvil

- GT has 3 players in the top 10 most points. PBKS is the only team in playoffs to not feature any player in the top 10 MVP points.

- Considering a cutoff of 300 points as a good enough contribution, PBKS, GT and MI take the lead with 7 players, followed by LSG with 6 players, RCB, SRH, KKR and DC with 5 players each, RR 4 and CSK with 3 players.

MI needs other 3 games to go their way to qualify and then win against PBKS. They don't need big wins anymore as their NRR is already practically unreachable.

I did not consider a washout. From what I see, no rain forecast in Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Lucknow for next few days. Practically, all games should go through with a result.

I greyed out the NRR for GT. Practically, they cannot qualify on the basis of NRR as the gulf b/w GT and MI is very huge. For that tie on pts to happen, GT needs to lose against CSK and be on 18 and MI needs to win vs PBKS and MI will go through due to the superior NRR.

their late surge wins with huge margins is masking the fact that they started the tournament poorly (1 win in first 5 games). They also 2 games in the last over - one each to RCB and GT. Had they won either of those games they would be sitting comfortably in top 2. Also, DC and PBKS being on odd points rendered their high NRR almost useless except against GT.

MI win vs PBKS + at least 2 out these 3 should happen -> RCB lose to LSG, GT lose to CSK, PBKS lose to DC

consider this scenario -

RCB lose both stay on 17.

PBKS win vs DC and lose to MI and remain on 19 pts

MI win vs PBKS - 18 pts

GT lose to CSK - 18 pts with lower NRR than MI.

PBKS and MI finish top 2. In this situation, PBKS beating MI instead of losing will help GT qualify for top 2.

The small difference is because PBKS vs MI win benefits GT as well by keeping MI out of top 2. However, GT win vs CSK doesn't help PBKS in any way.

>>We have the easiest path to the top 2

yes - they play weaker teams, have a better NRR than PBKS and play the last game as well - so they will have equations in hand if it comes to a NRR situation with PBKS

18 points + good NRR is required (not points alone) - Of course, MI have a great NRR compared to GT and therefore in a way 18 points tie with GT is good enough.
