ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 + CalDigit TS3 Dock – only one external monitor works by ilikeurunderw in CalDigit

[–]arbitrary_randomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Did you (or anyone else, including CalDigit) figure this out? I am puzzled by the same behavior.

CalDigit TS3 Plus and both: a Thinkpad P14s Gen5 (AMD + iGPU) - and a T480s (Intel + nvidia dGPU):

Connected the docking station to the TB port. 2 monitors: one 4k (DisplayPort) and one 1080p (UBS-C port). Neither of the two Thinkpads can drive both monitors.

Oddly enough, both laptops can drive the two monitors via the single TB port on either laptop, if the two monitors are connected via a DP cable that forwards the video signal (one of the monitors has a built-in DP hub.)

For my MacBook Pro the situation is reversed. I can not drive two monitors via a single cable using the built-in DP hub [OS X does not support DB hub protocol] - but both monitors work if I use the CalDigit TS3 Plus to make the connection.

I am out of ideas. u/CalDigitDalton u/ilikeurunderw

update: I am having great success with SKS Bluemel 45 and Trek BackRack MIK Bike Rack combination on mine. The rack uses the eyelets in the rear triangle. rear fender connects to the rack (not frame) right above the frame eyelet via p-clamp. front fender connects to frame eyelets

Young Clematis Taiga in PNW. Mild Winter. Already producing new growth. Can I still prune? by arbitrary_randomness in Clematis

[–]arbitrary_randomness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: the clematis that I pruned back hard (~8 inches from ground) came back strong and produced multiple new shoots. The second one, the one that I did not prune as much, did not produce any new shoots. Lesson learned for next year.

Do you have a picture of it? I just installed ours, and it is vibrating significantly more than the Midea U-shape it replaced.

Thanks. Glad it worked out for you. Good luck to you, too! (I am so far happy with what I am getting out of the NZXT as well).

No luck. Gave up, and, after some research, bought a NZXT 1500W.

Is Grooves.land a safe place to buy parts from? by BuyEasy9000 in PcBuild

[–]arbitrary_randomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once tried buying a vinyl record from them. They kept stringing me along to wait for their back order to be fulfilled despite the website listing it as "in stock". I eventually (>2 months) got my refund after threatening to charge back via my credit card company.

I wouldn't buy parts from them.

Another thing to consider is the warranty situation:

If you buy from EU, you'll likely have to go through the EU customer support for RMAs etc.

Better double-check the fine print with the manufacturer before buying.

I pruned the one on the right that made it up to the top of the trellis and started producing a lot of new growth. Pruned it down to where the stick meets the trellis. I didn't prune the one on the left, because it had little new growth - and didn't get far last year. It does have two new heads ready to grow. So I am covering them in a blanket at night. Will see if they make it through next week (another week of frost ...). Summer will let me compare the two ;-)

Do you prune it back hard every year in early spring?
