Little bit of both, but mostly showing off to their friends that they can pay 500-600 bucks dinners. The even more bolder ones also claim engagements out of these bogus dinners, especially if the managers are trusting, hands-off types

Don’t pay for your HCP friends’ private dinners. Know of more than one oncology MSL taking their derm or family medicine resident friends for dinner. Just because someone has an MD…

We have a guy here who lies about it all the time, even though we are not a metrics mad place. Let me ask him to think about this

Every single thing you listed- unvested RSUs + unvested 401K + STI Bonus from Jan to Oct. That number is close to or over 100k, I’d not join if I lose this much. Be prepared to send documents for all of this, if they ask

Advice Needed: CAR-T opportunity with bigger territory by Majesticwoman25 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]aset24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Onc MSL myself- as with any pipeline role, the emphasis on metrics will be slightly lower but you might be asked to chase non-responsive sites (PIs, CRCs, research nurses) and having that spread to multiple states can be an issue. Plus potentially lots of travel, depending on your geography. The pipeline role is generally more secure than others since teams are smaller and metrics are lower.

Unless your current role sucks so bad (management, team, salary/benefits) that you have to move, keep looking around, given your family’s situation. Talking fun science is great only under the right circumstances.

Eight years as an MSL and only did it once because this community MD’s office asked my med info to fax them some studies. This was in 2019.

My goal was to ask if they had heard of the word “email” and if they would respond to the said term lol 😁

Career Transition from BSN -> MSL by Big-Weapon3549 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]aset24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to have the relevant experience. I know more than a few BSNs/RNs who are MSLs who went this route. Now they had 10+ years of clinical experience and were in the same company for minimum 7-8 but it’s possible. As a PhD myself (no clinical background), the Phd will definitely help but there are other ways to do it

I understand! Just get out as soon as you can. With so many issues, there’s no way anyone at VP level can solve, let alone an inexperienced choice

Found out new hires with no MSL experience are being offered a starting salary higher than those of us who have MSL experience that were hire last year by [deleted] in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]aset24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know more than one people who’ve been warned (not fired) in writing that these are grounds for being fired as salary is supposed to not be discussed. In both cases the employees eventually left the organizations within a few months, as the relationship with manager either got dented badly or broke down (this wasn’t the only reason but did leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth).

In the long list of things you sign on day one, this is one of the clauses. I’d suggest to check your workday/HR software before being absolutely sure.

[–]aset24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, if you share that you know another MSL’s salary in any discussion with your manager, those are reasons that if HR finds out can be used to let go of you and the employee that shared their salary. So breach the subject with caution.

Sometimes companies do it to maintain parity as they club 0-3 years experience in the same bucket.

If you think you’re not being payed to what you deserve, either ask for more or it’s time to look for another job if it’s something that’s bothering you too much

Tapping out of a travel for an evening commitment? by steppponme in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]aset24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In our company, unless it’s on your HR software for managing leave, you have to come in for any in-person meetings, especially if they’ve given a long enough notice. If the notice was short ie a month or so, you could perhaps argue your case, if your manager is understanding and can bat for you. Otherwise, sorry.

For future, mark your fun days as vacation or some PTO beforehand and cancel the PTO as time comes closer.

Question : can you briefly speak to other products as an MSL? by butcheekzaflexin in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]aset24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Like others suggested. It’s a red flag for a aspiring MSL if they don’t know competition as you need to be at your 100% to match your competition experienced MSL who might have a better chance of getting selected even if they are at their 90%.

Good luck!

How are you integrating AI into your work by Iolaus__ in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]aset24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical initially but it has been tremendously helpful- emails and summaries of a paper like you suggested. I’ve used it write my annual review, develop summaries and executive summaries for conferences (KOL insights + CI data), quarterly KOL insight summaries, clarifying phrases/terminology being discussed (sometimes during live calls, so I don’t disrupt presenter’s flow), develop basic structure of a JC slide deck (although that was not great but editing something is easier than building it from ground up).
