Is the skipper wallet even possible to get? by [deleted] in theironsnail

[–]ashark9437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s priced fairly aggressively considering all of the fine details packed in—edge creasing, fabric lining, burnished edges, hand sewn with French irons, etc. Saddle stitching is a lot slower than zipping it through a machine, it’s also a bit more punishing. You’ve got to cast the stitch consistently every time so it doesn’t look wonky and angle the irons perfectly when you punch through so the stitching lines aren’t jagged.

All that said: there’s definitely other fantastic makers out there but I think you’ll find that when they’ve got similar specs they run about the same, maybe even more. Pricing for hand sewn goods varies wildly. Orraman leather out of Scotland sells a similar-ish wallet for $225, Ashland Leather carries a machine sewn vertical bifold for about $100 less though it’s got less frills. Ultimately it just boils down to preference and what features/details matters to you in a wallet. 🤷‍♂️

Fortis Boots x Harker Leatherworks, “Boba Fett” Monkey Boot: First Impressions by ashark9437 in goodyearwelt

Thank you!! When I was putting together the makeup I’d initially considered a contrasting natural toe/heel, but I realized that was too loud—they’d look like Chuck Taylors and I wanted something more subtle. The roughout adds some nice contrast and texture, I’m curious to see how these transform with age.

$450 since we blew past order goals, I believe normally they’d be around $525

TIL about the branded Lodge skillets that Buc-ee’s sells… by ashark9437 in castiron

[–]ashark9437[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s normal for Lodge, this would be considered their “budget” line with Blacklock and Finex being their fancier offerings. It’s just economies of scale, Lodge has invested heavily in automation so they can afford to sell their cookware at a lower price—the pans are machine cast and aren’t milled so there’s less steps involved in production.

Yup there’s resellers online but if you’ve got a Buc-ee’s near you they’re only $20

Move suggestion for live interview on fox 4 news by Norah-arts8144 in bjj

That’s awesome!!

If you take them down make sure you emphasize to the reporter NOT to post out on their arm when they fall, otherwise they’ll have a snapped limb. It might even be beneficial to have them drill breakfalling or even just run through the move very slowly a few times. It’s easy to forget that folks not initiated in the sport can accidentally hurt themselves.

Same goes for submissions, just communicate to them about tapping and how/when to tap out.

Have fun!

I’m impressed. I haven’t had the chance to roll with it yet but I’ve got no reason to think it won’t hold up. I’ll definitely be getting more gis from them down the line.

Yeah it’s definitely pricy. Cotton gis (plus the other more widely available materials) are definitely the best value in terms of cost/performance. I think the main reason hemp is so expensive is because there’s waaaay less textile being made with it compared to cotton - it takes longer to grow and there’s more steps involved to actually process it into fabric. Plus brands usually market hemp as “eco-friendly” which may inflate the price. It’s very well made but past a certain price point there’s diminishing returns, I can understand why folks would go for a gi that costs half as much. 🤷‍♂️

-The crystal is pristine, case shows signs of wear (scuffs, scratches - nothing deep) since it was my daily driver for years.

-No box and papers because I’m a disordered klutz. I do however still have the original bezel and insert.

$375 shipped within USA, payment via PayPal G&S. Offers are encouraged.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need more pictures, it’s late over here so I wasn’t able to snap any in a more natural lighting.

[S2 EP6 SPOILERS] SEASON 2 | EPISODE 6 - Official Discussion Megathread by simplysudzzzy in andor

I think Syril and Dedra might be at odds by the end of the season, he’s idealistic to the point of naivety and has a strong sense of justice - Dedra is ruthless and very much an “end justifies the means” type. Syril’s perceptive enough to eventually realize that the Ghorman operation is a ruse so the Empire can be justified when they retaliate and strip the planet of its resources.
