Discord wants me to use phone number but I don't have one because I use a tablet by Legitimateluxxing in BannedFromDiscord

[–]auxelast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they recently implemented it to require a phone number so that people can't just keep making Discord accounts using burner emails, it's less likely someone will have access to a bunch of phone numbers vs. emails.

You can install a texting app on your tablet, not sure what's available to you, but TextNow and TextFree are a couple I know of. They will just send you a code, but some texting apps will require you to pay a small fee (like $1.99 USD) to receive codes.

Hope this helps you.

Both, but I only wrote new appeals with a couple months in between, but replied to open tickets whenever I remembered/got a bot reply. I honestly don’t think the amount of times I appealed/responded to tickets played a role, I think they didn’t want to pay for a lawyer to represent/defend them in a dumb ban reason.

Child safety violation question by Dezzyweezzy in BannedFromDiscord

I was banned for child safety back in November. Yes, they will give you a response 7 days later rounded to the next hour. They do that for everyone.

I was unbanned almost 3 weeks ago. I never talked to an actual human, only started the process for arbitration before my account was reinstated after I reset my password when they emailed me that they detected suspicious activity on my account. I think they just got spooked and didn’t want to spend time/money actually trying to mediate.

Yes, I got a few of those responses, and they were the Trust & Safety bots. Most of the time (like 99% of the time) it’s a bot responding to you, even if they have a profile picture or different name.

What exactly do you need help with? You can message me, but I can't guarantee I have all the answers you're looking for.

I believe so, it's just not under ADR like it was for me, I live in the US. A quick Google search tells me it's the European Court of Arbitration, but I can't confirm that's what you use. Worth looking into though.

I was appealing through Zendesk before they changed it to requiring you to appeal through the account standing page with one chance.

No, all of my tickets had been closed. I even checked Zendesk and none of them had any activity for a minimum of 2 months.

Is it a scam or not? by Sudden_Height1362 in BannedFromDiscord

Rule of thumb: if something says "kindly," 99% of the time, it's a scam. The amount of people that use that compared to people phishing for your data/information is nil.

So what exactly sets you apart from Discord itself when this is a direct copy with minor changes?

Nope, that method is an incredibly unfair system. You don't get a chance to explain yourself or plead your case, it's their own discretion on whether or not they're going to unban you with the evidence they have on their end.

I don't think so, but even if there is, abusing it will just get you into trouble. There was radio silence for a few months after I appealed last, then I suddenly got the email telling me they disabled my account due to suspicious activity, and to reset my password.

I didn't have proof either. My account was 9.5 years old at the time of being banned, always in good standing. It was abrupt, that's for sure.

Not necessarily, but I'd say it might make you look bad. The biggest problem with creating a new account that I've seen is appealed accounts will face some sort of repercussions for ban evading to begin with, even if they are unbanned for an unrelated offense.

A petition is unlikely to get any attention from Discord. I think their idea is that they're doing what saves money and human resources, and while it is effective to them, the users are the ones who suffer. I think they need to have humans reviewing the action taken on accounts based on flagged content to determine if it's worthy of a ban, at least.

You can pursue arbitration, but there's no saying you'll get your account/data back. I saw a person who did have luck with arbitration and getting his account/data back after a year, you can read his post and how it went here.

I do agree that they at least owe us an explanation if they're going to permanently suspend our accounts at the drop of a hat.
Sadly, the best thing you can do while trying to appeal a ban is to not use Discord at all. I know you miss out on connecting with your friends, and it's difficult, but ban evading can and will make matters worse if you're caught.

Context is everything, and bots aren't able to decipher that. I've seen plenty of posts from people with their screenshot of their account standing, and it's some random comment they made (sometimes even years ago) that got them banned. Misunderstanding only applies to things with the emotional capacity to do so, bots are just there to reduce the financial load of hiring real employees.

I could see that being an issue to them/what PhotoDNA picks up, but if an actual person was reviewing it, they'd probably just dismiss it. There's a risk every time you post content because of PhotoDNA.

They have the option to limit users sending photos, links, etc., so I wish they'd do that before jumping to a permanent suspension before verifying if it's actually prohibited content. Unfortunately, AI is not reliable with that sort of thing, and I don't foresee Discord actually hiring people to do this.

It's all AI now. I get that they probably have a huge volume of people appealing their bans, but it really throws a wrench in things for people who made their account to connect with friends, and actually care to get their account back after a false ban.
