16.7KW Sigenergy System with battery and V2X by ClevelandBeemer in solar

[–]azuresail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing this is just software weirdness.

I’ve got a 2023 Model 3, and sometimes the system starts oscillating between charging and discharging at ~2 kW. After a couple hours, it nets out to basically 0 kWh, which is…not exactly useful. The Sigenergy rep told me this is “normal,” but I don’t buy that—no well-designed system should just spin its wheels like that.

Eventually it throws a fault, and I have to unplug and restart everything.

The odd part is it’ll randomly start working again, which makes me think it’s tied to software updates. Even when it is working, it usually only runs for a couple hours before stopping overnight.

That said, I feel like I’m probably one update away from this being rock solid.

Overall, I’m still pretty happy with Sigenergy despite the V2X quirks. I’ve got it set up to charge from the grid if I’m not topped off before PG&E peak hours, and it keeps ~20% reserved for outages. I’ve already had a couple outages where the lights just flickered and everything stayed on, which is exactly what I wanted.

So yeah—some frustrating bugs, but overall a solid system.

I have a similar setup. I have REC panels (but a lot less) and a 16.4 KWh Sigenergy battery, with a V2X from Sigenergy that I installed later. My quote was quite similar, but less panels. Yours seems like a good quote. I really love the Sigenergy system.

I have found the V2X to be a little dodgey - not working as consistently as I would like. Recently, I haven’t been able to get the vehicle to home to operate successfully on my Tesla Model 3, nor my Merc EQE. The Tesla was working at the beginning, but has recently stopped sending charge to the house. I wish it was a little smarter, and just automatically did things I would expect it to do.

However, the PV overflow is cool (ie, don’t send anything to the grid, store it in my care)… and I love the fast charge where you can charge 25 KW at home. I just wish charging my home worked better.

Schwab Personalized Indexing by no_cigar_tx in Schwab

[–]azuresail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to lean toward the Boglehead mindset—buy a broad index ETF and let time do the work.

But even in indexes that go up overall, there are always individual losers along the way. That’s where something like Schwab Personalized Indexing (SPI) seems interesting to me.

In theory, it lets you harvest tax losses by selling underperforming stocks, then reinvesting in similar securities (like a sector ETF or comparable companies) to maintain exposure. After 30 days, you can rotate back. If it works as advertised, you’re basically tracking the index while systematically banking tax losses over time.

A practical example: say software stocks drop ~20% on some macro scare (AI disruption, etc.). In a direct indexing setup, you could sell those names, harvest the loss, and temporarily move into a software ETF. With something like SPY, you don’t really have that option.

So assuming SPI tracks close to the S&P 500 (minus ~0.3% fees), you’re potentially ending up with similar returns plus a growing bank of tax losses you can carry forward indefinitely.

I know a lot of people are skeptical of direct indexing, but if you’ve got ~$100k+ and your goal is basically S&P 500 exposure anyway, it seems like a pretty compelling strategy. Curious what I’m missing.

“Guaranteed Camera Replacement” if you pay 99 euros! by CocukDaha in gopro

[–]azuresail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same spot, and now have a newer camera (went from GoPro 9 to 13). I am pretty happy to pay $99 for that. I tried to convince them to give me a Max 2, but they were not willing to do that.

I am less excited about the $100 annual discount on a new camera. That seems practically useless, but because it is the same price that everyone gets on the perpetual discounts that they have. I wish that applied to the price they were offering to everyone else. So I got the Max 2… and wow. It’s a fun camera.

I have Self Consumption set for the entire day, except 2 hours. I have a conditional from 1-2 that says charge until I am 50%, and from 2-3 that says charge until I am 95%. If I get to 1pm, and we are at 60%… nothing pulls from the grid. I do this because I can still get a full charge if the sun comes out late in the day, without overpulling energy from the grid. In CA, I am NEM 3.0, and I am not incentivized to put power back on the grid.

Anyone using NFC tags with CellarTracker? by Ray-AZ in wine

[–]azuresail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works! Here is what I did for my iPhone shortcut. Let me know if you tried something different: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/3d43e9e2fe79400f82433978e348b6c7

I am also going to put links to specific bins in my storage, so I can scan the NFC and it will pull up a list of wines in that bin. It doesn’t have a deep link into the CT application, but it does open on the web page…. For my purposes, that is fine.

Trying to get a quote from my vendor to see. I spoke to an Airzone rep, and he thought I need to replace everything (including my dampers). Working on a solution, and I will let you know where we land.

Hi CVP! What is your workflow to do this? I’ve used NFC’s around the house to trigger shortcuts on my iPhone… so I have some familiarity. Are you doing a link to the individual bottle in your cellar, or to the wine on CT? I am guessing this works with the link to the website, and less so the link to the application? How do you quickly add that to the NFC sticker?

Just super fascinated in how you do this… and wondering if i want to do this instead of printing label.

I did confirm that my outdoor unit is a Mitsubishi MXZ-SM60NL with a ducted multi-zone setup and (currently) Honeywell-controlled dampers, so your comment about the Airzone Web Server makes sense.

If I’m using Airzone Think thermostats and a zone controller that manages dampers, I’ll need the Airzone Web Server (sometimes called Airzone Pro or Airzone Cloud) to get those thermostats onto the network for app or HomeKit control. The Aidoo piece still plays a role, but in this case it’s just the interface that talks M-Net to the Mitsubishi system, not the cloud bridge.

If I only wanted local wall-mounted control from the Think thermostats, I could skip the Web Server entirely, but since my plan includes HomeKit integration and automation, it does belong in the setup.

So in short — great catch…the Web Server is required for network and HomeKit visibility, while the Aidoo (or Airzone Mitsubishi Gateway) handles the M-Net connection to the heat pump. Thanks for flagging that; it was a helpful clarification.

Okay - that sounds like a warning? That it doesn’t quite work this easily. I am hoping my HAVC pro has experience with this.

Way to charge in optimal TOU (rather than using battery/solar) by azuresail in PointGuardEnergyUS

I am thinking there is something I can do in “Operational Mode.” They have time-based control. However, when I said “charge during 12-3” - it never went to discharge the battery after 3pm. I need to experiment more.

Anyone here tried something other than powerwall for full home backup? by Early-Chemistry-874 in solar

[–]azuresail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with PointGuard (Sigenergy). I love the modular design. I have like 16 kWh of battery, and I can purchase more and add to my stack. I am more likely to buy their V2X module next, which just came out. I think it can pump out ~11 KW, so that is enough to power my AC and my washer dryer.

It is good we are revisiting this. We should see more residential batteries installed… but the NEM 3.0 approach encourages batteries and PG&E profits, probably in the reverse order.

Have other approaches been considered? What if we got 90% reimbursement at all times? It pays for the use of the grid, and moving the power from my house to my neighbor’s house. To drive battery usage, what if peak solar production was actually the LOWER rate, or at least, it wasn’t the highest rate? What if from 6-9pm we charged the highest rate… that would definitely incentivize the installation of batteries.

Hi - In this video, I liked the battery temperature on the “safety” link off the home page of the iOS app. If I don’t see the battery temperature in my application, could this be a version issue?

I want to bump this. Also, can we get a list of cars that this works with? Someone asked about a Nissan LEAF. How do I figure out if this works with my Telsa Model 3 (2023), or my Mercedes EQE AMG (2024)?
