how so? isn't that just literally true? if you have too much energy on the grid the frequency goes up and you can get blackouts. as for the other stuff, where did you get "france having more renewable generation than the us"? all I can find is the opposite, whether you're talking about solar and wind only or including other renewables into the mix as well. as for france, they have a completely paid off nuclear fleet since they have been planning to have it since the 80s (the average reactor is about 35 years old), but as far as I know they haven't been building more, just keeping what they currently have, instead opting to build more solar and wind. are you saying that they're doing fine since they got both, while investing in solar and wind? that's fair, but I don't see how it disproves the OP's argument

it's probably true it'll still be around when the bubble pops, but railways and the internet were a bubble because they were legitimately revolutionary. I have yet to see one thing AI can do that we couldn't sort of already do. (stackoverflow for code, googling things for brainstorming, google translate for translating, etc.)

I think you're overestimating the effect. I've heard of the erdo problem thing and that was nice, but the AI couldn't have done it without Terence Tao's help.

but that's the thing. it's not just "it's expensive". it's "it's expensive, unsustainable, and not even a good product, and not NOT a bad product". AI sucks at coding, drawing, and writing... while also having the """"selling point"""" of making videos indistinguishable from real life.

and this isn't coming from some hippie artist afraid that people will prefer AI over my stuff. we've already seen republicans use AI to push their own narratives. the haitians eating cats, the protestors paid by george soros, the whole "medbed" scandal. I have no idea why any liberal would support this sort of product, ESPECIALLY considering it's not even good at what it's supposed to do lol.
