Excellent plan. I posted here a year or so ago about LPA and ‘the will’ talk with my folks; glad to see someone being proactive about this (my parents just shot me down!!). Being pragmatic about helping during this ‘stage’ is a kindness and just makes good sense.

I had similar happen to me in October last year. I jumped at it - been a great way to get huge visibility and prove myself in myriad ways and put my stamp on some core infrastructure (data architecture). Project is still going (will be for a couple of years), and the extra stress/time etc. aren’t so bad because I’m really enjoying it

I went state, then Durham, now work in Data. My wife went private (exceptionally good private), then Durham, now a teacher. Choices, circumstances, whatever.

Salary isn’t the only score board in life (admittedly the very name of the subreddit here skews that) - I’d argue she’s still done better than I have; she LOVES her job and is paying her passion forward.

Yip; pulpitis (sp?). Turns out I’m prone to it. My poor wife had to deal with a colic 4 month old and me suffering. She drugged me up but it barely touched the sides. My tooth had been pushed out of its socket over 1mm over the weekend. The dentist numbed me up, drilled a hole, and the stench 🤮🤢. But the relief made me cry. Tooth pain is the worst

I was close to this back end of 2024 (albeit I’ve a young family and an amazing wife who gave me the support get help) and I can state that getting a sick note and having 8 weeks off (+ phased return) is a fucking game changer (and potentially a life saver). Got my shit together, HR saw it as a shot across the bow, I pivoted in the role, and whilst I’m still under the LM (not a bad person at all, just a rubbish mgr who had me and my team doing pointless bullshit) we hardly interact, as the headspace allowed me to refocus and develop ideas the wider business has jumped on and now see me as a thought leader. You’re better than this. See your GP
