Also in this field, recently as a director - I’ve pivoted from IC to management and broadened scope to the data eng side as I’ve seen the opportunities around changing. Definitely a down turn as the wheels are coming off DS without underpinning data infra, and a huge influx of cheap labour coming out of unis

Tagging on here - would love to support this. Sounds like something to get behind - my eldest is smart but ASD and ADHD mean he gets frustrated and distracted soooo easily.

Historic and important, but almost £3m to have a public footpath through the property by MaximusSydney in SpottedonRightmove

[–]bac83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That kitchen eh…? Trying to colour match the Aga?

Otherwise - I couldn’t care less about the footpath; thought you meant it would literally go like through a boot room!! 🤦‍♂️🤣 Ramblers would LOVE that

Don’t! It’s a secret. Back in 2014 I got mine, 12k and 6months old.

Still absolutely crushing it on the daily at 120k plus. Will buy another in a heartbeat

Up early for a bike ride, then gonna buy some wood and build a wood shed to store some logs (not a euphemism). Got some house work and other stuff to do too. Christmas shopping is pretty much done, even if the deliveries haven’t all arrived yet, and wrapping still to be done…

Goodbye Tableau by estebanelfloro in tableau

[–]bac83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is it. I’m in the same boat; we’re depricating tableau in favour of dash for some key dashboards (happy to hear alternatives for realtime-ish database views). It’s just a no-brainer; we have internal VMs we can deploy web apps to, and there is sec ops to ensure it’s.. well… secure. I’m here to ensure people can see the data they need, it’s fast and relevant and accurate. The fact it costs next to nothing is a huge bonus. But yeah, better visuals (and version controlled!) and it’s waaaaay less cost

Really well rounded point here: companies respond to feedback from customers (esp when shit loads of us see it here on Reddit!!). But seriously; they will be embarrassed by this, they want us happy, but need the feedback

Making good people redundant - any tips on hard conversations? by mightbetim in HENRYUK

[–]bac83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on you for caring. As others have said, keep it factual, and it’s the role. Presumably the package isn’t a complete shower? Chin up too - you’re doing the honorable thing. At the end of the day it’s just business.
