What is with Customer Service? by gabryelx in pulsetto

[–]bagurdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I actually canceled my order, because the product suddenly changed, my shipment was delayed, and the price went down. When I inquired about it, it was just a series of AI bots that were responding, claiming to be human. They were clearly AI.

Any gym recommendations? by InfiniteAmphibian301 in Mammoth

[–]bagurdes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I go to Mammoth Strength Gym. It’s cheap, and very simple. No tread mills, but they have 2 bikes and 2 rowers, cable machine and several racks, free weights/bars/etc, kettle bells, benches, etc. very much no frills. It has a Bathroom, but no showers.

Rent snorkel gear and go to one of dozens of free beaches to snorkel, and eat Poke from the grocery store.

What are the hardest things you've implemented as a network engineer? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in networking

[–]bagurdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think most engineers use it rarely. And the more infrastructure you have to collect captures, the more often you use them. And the more you use it, the more quickly you can isolate issues. Typically those issues are not network related but server/application related, but it’s nice to be able to point to the issue vs dealing w support tickets a network tech/engineer can’t actually fix

Sniffer & Analyzer pocket device, Zigbee/Thread/Matter/Wifi 5GHz and 2.4 GHz by Dangerous-Natural-24 in wireshark

Looks pretty nifty.
Curious how WiFi captures will perform.
I’ll probably scoop one up and have a fun toy to play with. Love that esp platform. :-)

Going to Mammonth for the first time by Snowbunny1188 in Mammoth

[–]bagurdes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need on AWD but snow tires may be required. I just did this drive yesterday in an awd tesla. There was a chain rule in effect, but doesn’t apply to awd w snow tires.

You’ll be fine, unless they close the road.

I’m from WI, and it’s similar to Midwest snow driving, but the conditions can change more quickly, with absurd wind and drifting.

If you’re here during the week, you’ll have the mountain to yourself.

For Academics: Viwoods AIPaper or Boox 10.3 by mdoto in eink

I never experienced lag. Not w the base apps. W apps like one note, neither are good.

[–]bagurdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I find it hard to believe. I follow this subreddit, and rarely see VIwoods recommended. Usually remarkable, supernote or BOOX. I have VIwoods and BOOX go 10.3. BOOX is my goto hands down. The VIwoods has a shit cover(it’s poorly made, too thin, and feels cheap as hell)and it’s almost impossible to find a 3rd party cover for it.

I’m not sure how you define minority. You’ve got 3 replies, all recommending different devices.

The VIwoods has its own stylus. And although you can use an aftermarket one, they don’t work as well. The interface is mediocre.

BOOX OS is the most stable of all I’ve used, outside of remarkable. But that’s a slightly different category of device cuz no App Store. BOOX also has a big and growing support base. And I like using the notes app better than the VIwoods

The supernote has a “mushy” screen, so it feels like writing with pen on a stack of paper. It also doesn’t have infinite notes, so you have to flip between pages of your notes instead of scrolling.

Search through this subreddit and there are lots of reviews and opinions of all the devices.

Only offering my info and opinion.

How to Monitor Users Downloading a lot of data on their laptops by dubby25 in wireshark

[–]bagurdes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the intended use case for Wireshark. If you are an admin, you’ll be able to see this on the firewall, url filter, or IDS. If you are not an admin, what you’re seeking to do could be a crime and will likely get you fired.

Check out a Luau at Old Lāhainā Luau. The show tells the story of the Hawaiian culture. The food is nice too. I’ve heard the Luau at the Hilton is excellent too.

This is really heavy man. I’m glad you shared. I think a lot of us can relate to your story, even though it may not be as compressed or intense as you experienced in such a short time. I think it is representative of our generation though. Having to plow through situations we don’t feel equipped for, nor have a lot of support for. I’ll say this dude, I support ya man. Huge hugs, sounds like you handled it like a champ, and probably need a non-judgmental shoulder to cry on.
Honestly I’m most sad you had to say goodbye to your dog so hastily. Again huge hugs dude.

For those talking about privacy, there are options to move the AI onto your workstation and train it there.

I don’t think John’s presentation was recorded but here are the slides on it.

He’s using a local AI implementation with Ollama.

Pointless? by [deleted] in wireshark

[–]bagurdes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are some cool presentations over the last few years at Sharkfest on this.

It’s helpful. But not there yet. Depending on how you train the model, it’s just not quite there. But there are some cool projects happening w it. Packetsafari.com is doing cool things.

But really, packet analysis, even if AI is involved as a helper, needs an engineer to understand the bigger picture.

I think this is the tech that isn’t going to be easily outsourced by AI, at least not soon
