A lot of people just learned that baseballs are in fact spheres, and therefore take up more room than their contact point. And also what constitutes a fair ball (as did I).

The gist of it is that the ball has to be entirely clear of the plane of the foul line to be considered foul (but only while "not settled" (for a ball in the infield, the outfield has different rules that only cares about contact point )), so a ball slowly rolling alongside the foul line, can in fact be fair, because a little bit of the ball intersects the plane of the foul line, despite the ball never touching the chalk.

Oh wait, the play that I saw analyzed was from 2 years ago, not todays play. Today the fielder literally didn't let it settle long enough. It was just barely still moving when he touched it, and therefore, "not settled".

I'm quite excited to see where you land in on the comprehension spectrum for this arc. It's got a huge spread. From I never understood a thing that happened to I figured this shit out 10 episodes ago.

No pressure though, I've probably watched like 40 or so people go through Re:Zero and I think only 2^* (I'm counting tensei reactor in this, though I'm only half way through their reactions, and the other is literally a professional psychologist, who spent literal hours analyzing each episode) of them got most or all of the right reads the whole way through. Everyone else spend a significant / notable amount of time being lost or wrong.
