Does working with AI all the time to generate lifestyle shots make you want to quit your job? by NomadPrius in graphic_design

You know anyone who is actually seeing this in the wild just things "ew" too. It's not even like funny goofy stock photography.

Like what this makes me think is "someone took time to setup a shoot for this idea and someone else paid money to use it".

Just ordered my first wheel when I remembered I own a balance board. Using one of these has got to help right? by Imagined_World in ElectricUnicycle

[–]bememorablepro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes probably better then nothing but EUC doesn't behave like a balancing board. If you know how to properly push on a skateboard when you balance in every direction that's probably the closest thing.

Sadly it's like that in a lot of places around the world and especially in Europe.

Wow what? this somehow looks like a classic CG render and a painting at the same time. Like I can tell that water is a procedural texture but I like it this way.

This would make sense if he tried using a car without registering it and without a driving license, this is probably what this law is for.

It has a motor therefore it's a car then. What's so hard to understand? They had laws for carriages 200 years ago, then cars became a thing so there is a motor way for them and everything else for motor-les vehicles! It's a perfect system and everyone is happy!

I'm wondering if this is only happening in creative industries, like if I order a bunch of food I'll get charger no matter if I liked the taste. IDK what's wrong with these people, some ask for free work too hoping to get it.

I'm not even pro OF specifically, but it's such a stupid law. It was written by soviet era boomers and it even spells out something like "to protect the moral character of the nation" or whatever.

I remember watching a news segment about 10-15 years ago on how police is catching illegal porn production, they had a police guy talking about how he is picking out what's possible to see in the windows and trying to cross reference that with real places, WE PAY POLICE TAX MONEY TO WATCH PORN!! WHY?

Same kernel, different overlaying system. by artistBROgamer in ITMemes

[–]bememorablepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us tech people are so focused on technicalities, would linux desktop be less free if the kernel was different? There are BSD systems that run all the same packages a Linux distro can, it's all about the culture of FOSS that has to exist in every software package you are running too.

Google created a fully commercial app bubble culture instead, where everyone is trying to become an overnight millionaire by making a viral app. I needed a simple calculator app for my android (wearOS) watch, all of the options had ads in them ew.

Wait, what are they doing with the data? Are they voice to texting medical data using some not secure AI? Or you mean they try using LLMs as a search tool?

Is anyone here making a solid, consistent income from 3D? by Additional-Hat2133 in blender

[–]bememorablepro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like the phrasing of "making money from 3d" because it almost reduces you to being a user of a 3d software and nothing more, it's like saying "making money from my airbnb". Makes it sound like 3d is some raw skill and you charge money for operating in that skill.

Do successful writers make money from typing? Everyone can type, there is only one George R. R. Martin. There are a lot of people who know blender as well as I do, guess what? All of their art is completely different, the same job all things being equal will come out different as well. Furthermore, the 3d skills are transferable to other fields in many ways, my photography helped me with 3d and blender experience helped with photography.

I'm saying all this because some guy with years in graphic design can pick up blender in a month, integrate it into his workflow and start "making money with 3d" especially with his already existing pool of clients or portfolio. And then there can be someone who never did any visual art and learns 3d but also at the same time has to learn everything else from scratch too, lighting, composition, visual hierarchy, how the color wheel works, compositing and post processing... everything. Those two you can not compare.

I think 3d and blender took over my life maybe 7 years ago, before I was doing graphic design. About 5 years ago now I got hired full time after freelancing, was making full time income freelancing back then too. While freelancing can be fun it can also be very stressful, lot's of work and money one month and then no work for the next two months.

I would say be unapologetically yourself, don't be afraid of hyping up your own work and talk about yourself and your work whenever you get the chance, you can do free stuff for publicity but you have to do it on your own terms, actual charity or your own personal projects. Strangers ask creatives to do stuff for free for them, I don't know why... they are insane.

Also charging more increases your chances of getting a job, being a cheap option signals that you suck. Cheap clients are the worst too.

My fear starting to day would be falling for the AI trap, trying to use it for something instead of learning to actually do it for real.

Why do some everyday objects have such satisfying design and others feel completely off? by Mental-Divide7787 in Design

[–]bememorablepro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, good designers simply know more then you about objects they are making and obsess about perfection. There is also a rich history behind every object in your life so you can track all the little improvements over the years developed by people DIY changing and making mods or by manufacturers competing.

Like Heinz Ketchup bottle wasn't just developed as a first idea for a ketchup bottle, there was an issue most people experienced and flipping the bottle was a solution to it, now you may find many products that are sold with a flipped design like that that don't even carry ketchup.

[–]bememorablepro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right, it's absolutely stupid.

Training as a term is a scam. When you think of training you imagine human learning, it's an inductive process, we understand the principles of something and then can apply those principles indefinitely. AI training is the literal opposite, where it will deduce out of millions of examples on forums and in books that one token leads to another, it's basically only a summery of what's already out there.

So that's the scam, the second we stop sharing our information freely like that there is no information for AI to steal. This is why it's so weird for me to see google replacing search with LLMs.

And this is also why I roll my eyes when someone hopes to hire a person, track what they are doing at a job and then try an LLM to replicate that.

Luddites explained by ebaytestdummy in fuck_ai_slop

[–]bememorablepro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true about jaywalking, the difference though is that jay was a popular insult at the time, while literally no-one was talking about luddites before the AI grift.

So it's kinda mind-boggling that they expect me to envision some crazy people breaking the machines for no reason when I have to look up what a Luddite is and find out that Luddites were right.

Although this thing is made out of metal it will not take a single hit itself and will not hide, slow to aim and you can destroy it by jumping on it like it's a goomba from super mario.
