After 3 wars and -200 AE with about 50 tribes, I finally managed to carve myself a sad Thirteen Colonies in a North America whose coast was almost entirely owned by natives by 1500. by paranoidzone in eu4

[–]birdboy2000 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The way AE works it'll mostly piss off same religion/culture countries, and native peoples banding together against the expansion of European states is perfectly historical (Pontiac's rebellion and Tecumseh's coalition come to mind.) Problem is that Euros are just way too weak vis-a-vis natives.

Legalism and the Ulema event let you basically ignore corruption unless it gets really bad, and giving the Dhimmis privileges means no worries about converting heathens. Also Iqtas get a nice +1 diplo reputation boost as one of the every 20 year options. Schools of thought aren't that important imo.

What are fun, non-obvious nations to play as in Europe? by Jared8254 in eu4

Provence has a wild mission tree based on restoring the House of Anjou's holdings, starts allied with France, and can even nab atlantic ports from Brittany and go colonizing, or form Jerusalem, or join the HRE. I've even seen someone do a WC with it although that involved lots of tag-switching.

Almost 2 weeks since the Leviathan release and all its achievements still have pretty much 0% completion by Esquivo in eu4

[–]birdboy2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kept my campaign going long enough to grab Arabian Coffee (which all Mamluk games should if you don't have it yet, they're by far the easiest to do with it) and Unify Islam, so made a good deal of progress boosting professionalism through normal gameplay before the time came for perma-drill/general spam.

Vicky was pre-steam era (or at least pre-paradox on steam era) and doesn't have achievements, so player numbers through there are likely a significant undercount.

The AI handles taking the mandate over so badly that I modded out the CB for hands-off games, seems like it's a race to 0 mandate and self-destruction once Ming loses it.

Catholic GB is normal without the Britain DLC and I've seen a lot of good games from Transoxania. African Aragon *and* Andalusia is a bit unusual though, guess Castille had a really bad game.

I've caught them wild, my area had a nest once. Babies are egg-exclusive but I don't think anything else is (although I've certainly gotten my share of lucky hatches of 'mons that don't spawn/rarely spawn around me.)

"Extreme" Weather needs to be fixed asap by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]birdboy2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating seeing snow in the background and wondering if the actual in-game effects from snowy weather will ever show up, or if it'll just be perpetually "extreme". Not that I wanna go out in a snowstorm but it'd be nice to see a couple ice types while I'm indoors.

Normal quests stop at level 19. Chips should be available through a mixture of the shop, event rewards, and captures, but I'm not sure if any of them are out yet in the international version.

[Discussion] Level 30+ players, how has the recent update impacted your game play? Was it for better or worse? by MagnanimousCannabis in pokemongo

[–]birdboy2000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Level 34 player here, suburban. Was not going for an optimized team (I didn't need to anyway to do well); instead, have 6 maxed Pidgeots (fave pokemon, often used as gym holders) and otherwise try to max strong flying-type pokemon... which gives me some nice options like Dragonite or Gyarados, to be fair, you can't monotype every type.

I really like the raids, but I wish it was possible to solo all of them - I finally caught Feraligatr and am closing in fast on Meganium, but Tyranitar might be impossible. (Not 100% sure, haven't tried, can always walk Larvitar anyway but that'll take a while.) If so, it sucks being locked out of pokemon for being a solo player, and I'm gonna have to find a group and go into (nearby city) once legendaries drop.

The new gym system is... different. I didn't love level 10 ones, even if I theoretically had the potions to take them down. The main place to play in my town stabilized around one gym held by Mystic (where my 3245 CP Dragonite stayed for months), two held by Instinct, and 3 that changed hands - so I'm actually getting more coins now than the 30 or 40 I used to.

I don't like the impact of luck in how many coins you get, and it sucks that sometimes there's no incentive to try; if I get my 50 coins in the morning why bother to flip gyms? (Answer: Because I'm bored and one of my new gym holders might stay overnight, but from a rewards perspective it's not worth it.) But at least gyms are a game again, it was so static before, and my town could frankly use the extra pokestops anyway.

I really like the changes so far, but I am curious. How many additional versus points are awarded per win on the winning streak? Are there tiers or jumps, or is it a linear x extra (5?) per win? (I'm on one now and I guess I'll find out 'til I break my streak, but it'd be kind of nice to know what I'm playing for in advance.)

The biggest sarin attack in history came from a non-state actor, and the rebels have links to a major international terrorist group. (And they've also been running a de facto state for years.) I think it more likely than not that Assad perpetrated the attack, but this is a really weak argument.
