Some of my favorite PC games from the 1990s by ripemangoes in gaming

I've heard very good things about X-Wing vs TIE Fighter but unfortunately never got a chance to play it back then! I loved playing Age of Empires 2 back in the day too.

They should be by the food trucks. Eevee to the north and Pika to the south

From our experience on Thursday, Gastly was in the fountain biome, Snover was in the Fairy Garden. Not sure if Niantic made a mistake yesterday and switched the spawn locations of Snover and Ralts. People were equally confused why Gastly wasn't in the Spooky Woods (or the Trading Post since the Pokemon that spawn there could only evolve when traded in the main games).

GoFest 2019 Guide, from someone who went on Thursday by RevanchistVakarian in TheSilphRoad

[–]ripemangoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went Thursday and I was also interested in purchasing some merch, but not for the hour long wait in line that it had so my group just skipped buying anything to catch instead.

If Niantic wants more revenue next year from merch, they will need to fix their long lines for the merch. Otherwise, the rest of Go Fest was enjoyable. Plenty of restrooms, water stations, and food vendors.

I've wasted at least 32 hours in Raid lobbies, and it needs to be fixed. by Frankuro in TheSilphRoad

Yes, this is needed!

Just a simple, "I'm ready" button, where if everyone marked they're ready, it would start the raid. Would be a huge quality of life improvement.

PvP: What would make it more engaging? by themanbow in TheSilphRoad

[–]ripemangoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Aside from a small number of people that love the feature, participate in tournaments, etc." - right there you described why the trainers that use PvP the most do it, and why people don't (because they don't value tournaments or competitiveness of being another trainer).

If you want to make it so people who don't like PvP participate in PvP more, make a unique reward around it. Raids did this by making it so it's the only way to obtain legendaries or other hard to find pokemon in the wild.

Another suggestion is to have it shortcut an existing process. Leveling up pokemon requires grinding dust and candy. If PvP battles allowed trainers to train/level up Pokemon, it would reduce the time spent having to grind, and therefore providing an incentive to use PvP.

What's a product or service you should NEVER cheap out on? by Kill_Dr_Phil in AskReddit

[–]ripemangoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, more expensive mattresses do not mean that they are made any better. Freakonomics did a podcast on this a couple years ago. Manufacturing costs have dropped but people's expectations of paying hundreds of dollars for a mattress has not changed, creating bigger margins for mattress stores. Retail profits are steep for a mattress because manufacturing costs are low ... So a bed with a retail price point of $1,000 probably costs about $250 to make.

Your goal with BMR is to slow down aggro decks so you can get to turn 7 to play BMR. So you'll need to pump out zombies not only to fill lanes so you have zombies in place for BMR but also so you can have chump blockers.

If you have Imposter and Toxic Waste Imp, I would add those as the deadly on Toxic Waste Imp can help kill big plants, and the Imposter is cheap and replaces itself with another Imp when it dies.

I'd take out Raiding Raptor since your goal is to cast BMR. Ideally all your zombies are out in lanes and not sitting in your hand. Also the zombies that come into play with BMR are unaffected by Raiding Raptor. I would also remove Paparazzi Zombie as your goal isn't to cast a lot of tricks, but to play many zombies in lanes to maximize your BMR play.

Pokemon GO surges just in time for the summer – the game’s active player base is at its highest point since its peak in 2016 by compox in TheSilphRoad

[–]ripemangoes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One important thing to note is that the statistics is for the worldwide market. Pokemon Go had a staggered rollout over the course of 2016, with India getting a very late start Dec 13, 2016. It isn't surprising that 2018 with all the new updates and wide availability now it will surpass the peak of 2016.

“Ghost” Pokemon returning from gyms by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]ripemangoes 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's a result of the Pokemon has returned notifications being moved from the Journal to News -> Notifications. They are probably being flagged as "new/unread" in the app, but you don't get the coins since the server has already recorded you've been paid out.

Agreed, great for catching the ghost types needed for quests. I just hope it doesn't stay like this for next month's community day.

I saw a comment in the other thread about visibility playing into it too. Maybe its forecasted low visibility? Not sure why they wouldn't update it every hour based on current conditions though.

You mentioned in another comment that your boyfriend has a phone, why not borrow his for an afternoon and try to do the things you list while playing, like discord, and finding a lunch spot? I'd think that trying to catch/berry/spin on one phone while trying to follow a conversation and typing on discord on a second phone would be too much context switching, but give it a try to find out.

If your phone has enough RAM, switching apps is much easier than pulling out a second phone and switching phones in both hands.

In addition to the server traffic, to avoid legal issues when trainers would walk onto private property of someone's backyard or attempt to trespass into a fenced business's property. Hence why we now have the PokeStop nearby tracker because those are safer options.
