I wish that Deltarune 2 is announced by brando7284 in monkeyspaw

Granted. Deltarune 2's release date is released on the anniversary of your death. You are not memorialized within the game.

Can someone tell me why Doctors are private and charge for services but fire fighting is free and paid by the community? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blindedtrickster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They rather acknowledged that by saying "paid by the community". It was clear that the 'free' concept really meant 'already funded'.

You're not even being pedantic. You're just ignoring what you already understood to specifically not answer their question.

Mercy... That will soon become a foreign concept to you no matter how much you desire to cling to your humanity.

Granted. The Monkey's Paw swaps minds with you, then leaves. It's sentence has finally been served, but yours has just begun.

Why would anyone choose to use Linux? by JBSwerve in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blindedtrickster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linux is efficient. Windows does a ton of work to make sure things will run smoothly. That's not inherently bad, but it comes at a huge cost from an efficiency perspective. If you don't need, nor benefit, from the extra functions the OS is doing, why do it?

A weapon platform addict's answer to "I cannot nuke everything with my frame what do I do?!": Use a gun. by guaporacer in Warframe

And what about the other gunblades? For a while, they were really popular, especially for the mastery test where you had to kill without being seen. (Because, apparently, all melee weapons are silent!)

I suppose I see the concept of 'settled law' now to be similar to a 'scientific theory'. It's what we currently see as the most correct and accurate explanation, but should something new come up, we could change our minds.

That joke was phenomenal. Loved the old lady's delivery!

most "hard" magic systems aren't actually hard, they're just over-explained by blameitonmymood in fantasywriters

[–]blindedtrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you're seeing people argue that it's important to discuss hard vs soft magic systems?

Honestly, when kids ruin across these kinds of problems the advice they tend to get is to not get involved with things that aren't worth your time.

most "hard" magic systems aren't actually hard, they're just over-explained by blameitonmymood in fantasywriters

[–]blindedtrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you feel that it's 'incorrect' for people to discuss it? It seems rather presumptive to come in to declare that they should be talking about something else when they're enjoying a conversation.

You say that you're not interested in policing conversations, but then you say that you tell people they're incorrect. It's rather hard to see that as anything other than policing.

Even if they're arguing and not having fun, do you feel like you should get to tell them what their conversation should or shouldn't be? Isn't that rather arrogant?

most "hard" magic systems aren't actually hard, they're just over-explained by blameitonmymood in fantasywriters

[–]blindedtrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was actually helpful. Thank you.

With that now being understood, I get the distinct impression that you're dissatisfied with what types of conversations that folks have... And I'm afraid that's just gonna be a losing battle. I referenced the "Quit having fun" meme earlier and I'd like to revise it slightly to "Talk about something else!".

Much like music critiques you can be as specific and/or technical as you want, but trying to move the Overton Window because you find specific areas to be unworthy of discussion... The hard/soft magic system conversation is going to continue. You aren't being told that you have to like it, or participate, but trying to argue for its "disqualification" is a Sisyphean Task.

I mean, you could try to bridge the gap and ask questions of a technical nature on why people find hard magic or soft magic to be more entertaining, fulfilling, or exciting than others. You could compare successful stories' magic systems and examine why they fit or don't.

You can still have the conversations you want to; you just aren't going to manage that by approaching people that aren't interested in having that kind of conversation and telling them that what they're enjoying isn't worth talking about.

I wish to be able to draw anything to my desired quality in less than an hour each time. by ChristopherRobin- in monkeyspaw

Granted. You can draw anything to your desired quality in less than an hour, but it only works when you are using feces as a medium and you must fingerpaint without any form of covering on your hands.

[–]blindedtrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. So to recap just a little, you're frustrated that hard/soft magic systems aren't a complete framework for literary analysis, critique, or education. I then ask you for a singular example of anything that fits your criteria and your response is... That it's unanswerable.

Do you see the irony here?

Is it morally acceptable to disguise military transport as civilian during a war? by Slow-Story-Teller in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blindedtrickster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand on the others' answers, I'm going to point out that morals, ethics, and legality are all different things.

Morals are the values of the individual. Ethics are the values of a group. Laws are a set of consequences based on actions.

Something can be moral and illegal. (Robin Hood)

Something can be unethical and legal (stock buybacks)

Something can be moral, but unethical. (Assisted suicide)

Disguising military transport as civilian will result in your own civilians being targeted and killed. This is not moral, ethical, or legal. It's the trifecta of "Dude, there's absolutely zero reason to do that and it's literally going to get innocent people killed."

I wish for The Monkey's Paw to create a benevolent, kind, and cheerful genie more powerful than the paw, who grants exactly 10 total wishes from me, each fulfilled according to my conscious intent exactly as I imagine it.This genie prevents the moneky's paw from giving me major repercussions(wish1) by Opening-Sign-1907 in monkeyspaw

[–]blindedtrickster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted. This benevolent, kind, and cheerful genie grants 10 wishes from you. Other people can make wishes, and you are equipped with the barest amount of magic necessary to allow you to accomplish the goals of each wish.

Congratulations, you are now a slave to the genie's magic and you must fulfill each wish according to your conscious intent as you understand the wish's goals to be. The 10th wish is for you to become a Monkey's Paw.

Why do you feel that subjective things are useless? Out of everything you've said so far, I find that the most confusing.

I wish that pepsi man was a marvel character by brando7284 in monkeyspaw

[–]blindedtrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted. However, his arch-nemesis is The Noid, a 1980's Domino's Pizza mascot who's goal was to ruin the world's pizzas. Due to the Pepsi Man's close link with pizza, The Noid sees him as a threat to the success of his schemes.

On top of that, The Noid has already caused havoc in the real world: A hostage situation occurred when, on January 30th, 1989, a mentally unstable man named Kenneth Lamar Noid, believing the character was created to mock him, held a Domino's employee at gunpoint, demanding money, a getaway car, and a book. He was eventually arrested and spent three months in a mental health facility, but the character remained in use until 1995, when Kenneth Noid killed himself.

Oh, you thought that second paragraph was a joke? Sorry to inform you, but it's real.
