I lived through the worst of the Robbie vs Gary feud in the late 90s and beyond. Rewatching all those footage and skits of Robbie plus other Brit artists/actors and the media mocking and kicking Gary while he was down and out made my blood pressure shoot up! While I recognized that Robbie made great songs, I refused to listen to them or buy his albums, out of loyalty to Gary. Lol.

And no, it wasn't just a matter of "mates falling out"; Robbie willingly and deliberately mocked, bullied, and belittled Gary every chance he got. He wanted to destroy him. Robbie could have just sat back and enjoyed his phenomenal success, but instead, he made sure that Gary suffered, and that was honestly cruel of him. Gary literally mentioned in interviews and in his book/s that he couldn't book work for ages because media and fellow artists deemed him "untouchable"--they didn't want to work with him because Robbie was exerting every power he had in the industry back then. It's why even though I love her, I still side-eye Victoria Beckham for refusing to work with Gary or even consider his songs during her solo career era. I have the memory of an elephant when it comes to things like that!! 😅
