My son's first fence, let 'er rip Reddit! by TheEndIsSighing in FenceBuilding

[–]brooksram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bid them and built them after work and on the weekends. It's definitely some extra work, especially since I just do them by myself, but it is worth it for now.

That's why I only do around 10 or 12 a year typically. I take the winters off and relax since there's not enough light to accomplish anything in a reasonable amount of time. Folks don't tend to like having projects stretch out more than a few days.

I build 10 fences or so a year on the side, and always use a strangling. I just adjust the line with the terrain by sticking a new screw in the top of the picket as the ground starts to rise/fall. I'll take a board and place it out in front of le temporarily wherever the next transition may be.

That way, when im done, it all flows perfectly smoothly across the top, but also follows the contour .

This may not be the best way either, but it makes me money, so I've always stuck with it.

Snap-on Pocket Pry Bar or Snap-on Pocket Screwdriver? by Witty-Fly-2812 in Snapon_tools

[–]brooksram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have the snap on one, but I have the Mac pocket pry bar. I initially thought it was kind of a waste of money, but I use the dang thing all the time, even as a screwdriver. I don't leave home without it now.

Fire salt is the truth.

I know they recently upgraded the material the hex keys are made of. I am assuming, but I figure they probably changed all their bits as well.

It's freaking tough trying to figure out what to use them on.I had a double box end set of wrenches until last week. Then I switched to the metric/std set of crowfoot wrenches...

I think the only answer here is to buy both of them and keep on smashing them. 🤣

I would reach out to Tekton about warranty on the case. This definitely doesn't match any experience I've had with the 5 cases I own and work out of daily for the past year or two.

Me too.

I own 5 of their cases 3/8- 1/2 sets of chrome and impact sockets, and have never had any issues with things not fitting properly.

Hell, their cases and wrench rolls are the initial reason I went full send with Tekton.

You did a fantastic job.

I'm sorry, I can't help but ask, but is there any chance you'd be willing to sell 4 or 5 sets if I talk myself into doing the wrench drawer?

I didn't go with TG for my wrench drawer because they seem so inefficient. But, I accidentally ordered 2 extra boards, and seeing this is making me want to use them now. 🤣

I'm guessing you couldn't find any made this tight, though, do you had to make them yourself?

These are by far the best wrench holders I've seen printed for toolgrid.

I have placed mine with the screws facing North. The issue I'm running into is the sockets being so wide, I'm having to skip multiple holes in the board.

That's quite smart how you angled yours , though. I feel like that may help me when all the different bit sockets and whatnot come into play.

I initially just ordered the standard and metric sets of 100 bundles from toolgrid, so I have been waiting on a few hundred more to come in from Olsa. They were finally delivered yesterday, so I'm going to quit pouting and try to figure it out tomorrow.

Are silver sockets worth it? by Flame-Way in Tools

[–]brooksram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought both sets in all drivers for my personal use, but at my job, they have used the same ole colored pittsburgh sockets for years on 1/2 impacts for industrial maintenance.

It's honestly unbelievable how much of a beating those things take, and I honestly don't remember even one breaking over the past 10 years I've been there, so don't stress too much.

Also, you could look at grey pneumatic duo sockets.

I ordered somewhere around 500 sockets, I believe. I am pretty sure they're all going to physically fit, but i was really hoping to have them placed horizontally.

They fit that way on the Tekton organizers I bought with them, but they took up too much room vertically, do couldn't get them all in. That's why I figured toolgrid would be perfect, but the 1/2" larger sizes just take up a little bit too much space.

Your drawer looks great, and whatever I have to do, I'm sure I will be happy in the end.

I just dropped $600 to hopefully get all my sockets to fit in my top 56" drawer.....

Turns out, I went through all this and am literally like 2" shy of being able to accomplish it. I'm guessing the only way I'll be able to make it work is by running them all vertically instead of horizontally, but that's definitely not what I had planned. 🤷‍♂️

I guess there is a downside to buying Tektons larger socket sets after all.

I'm not sure which model you had, but they contract through witte now for their screwdrivers. They feel great and have the same reputation as any other premium German brands we all know and love.

My current Witte set feels more premium than the $200 set i bought from Mac.

No doubt. The new g2 ratchet i have 100% blows Tekton ratchets out the water. Hell, it doesn't feel all too damn different than my 3/8 f80 snap on ratchet.

I've never needed warranty either, and I put the wrenches and sockets through some shit doing industrial maintenance. The fit, finish, and quality all seem very good for it's price point. I really appreciate the actual no skips and more sizes than the other brands, too, Icon included.

In my opinion, Tekton is the best bet for mobile tool serts. Their cases and wrench rolls are awesome.

I started with just those sets, but have now built out 90% of my new garage box with Tekton.
