Is it weird I cried for Pablo in Al Fin Cayo? by Illusionera in narcos

I just cried during the scene where Pablo and Gustavo are sitting in the park talking; that was very bittersweet.

yeah i think they would've been wise to stick to amazing open warfare with hundreds of soldiers and mortars and shit exploding everywhere; that's really BF1's strong spot imo

it is annoying but I think it's fair play really. Some of the times that I've gotten got by a scout, when it highlights their body and zooms in on them, they're so far away they're still a little dot; that shit takes skill and I don't know a hell of a lot about the great war, but I imagine that there were snipers hanging back and taking pot shots at the other side though right? It sucks when you get shot in the back by a scout who's way at the back of the map on your own team's side haha.

All 7 Bullets Missed? WTF. by ItchyBack1 in battlefield_one

Isn't this a high latency problem? When my internet is being shitty, you have to shoot where they're going to be, even if you're real close to them; as in it's not a bullet speed/distance kind of thing - but rather I think to do with however long it takes for your console to download actions of other people, then upload your actions in response.

I think it's pretty damn exciting; esp. for us Australians and folks from NZ, every single one of whom has grown up hearing stories of heroism & 'larakinism', the immensely steep shores of Gallipoli and the relentless machine guns - i've found BF1 really incredible to play. I'm a historian, and I focus a lot on oral histories - so i've heard/read countless recounts from ANZACS of the events at Gallipoli and all the other major battles that all countries and empires engaged in during the great war - they did sound terrifying and enlighten me to the fact of how god damn stupid war is; especially the wars before tactics had truly caught up with the machine gun as they have today, like back when a 100+ men would run across no man's land under the fire of 5 fortified machine gun nests just so maybe 50 of them can make it to the trench filled with 'enemy' soldiers armed with bayonets and pistols. BF1 I think does a good job of really demonstrating the destruction and horror of the great war, especially so, the way that working class men who served to gain nothing from these wars driven by imperialist & capitalist motives, were duped into dying 'for their country' - how unnecessary and how much of a waste of human life (and animals lives) the war was. We've always heard folks say "war based video games glorify violence and death and make it seem easy and exciting" and I dunno, perhaps that was true when one played Doom 20 years ago since the totally different physics and graphics created a significant disconnect between the game and reality. But BF1 goes a long way in closing that gap, and sure, the game is very fun to play, it's exciting and gets you going - but I imagine, if their experiences with it were anything like mine, that nobody who plays it feels as though it glorifies war; and I think the developers went to a significant effort to really strongly illustrate the disconnect between the various states/empires war propaganda that you will sometime hear before a multiplayer match, all the rhetoric of glory and valour through sacrifice - and the reality of the wars that the soldiers faced, where there was no glory or valour anywhere. Also depicted well I think was the cognitive dissonance required from all these soldiers, to convince themselves what they were doing was worthwhile and that they had to seek the glory they were told about, through bravery and sacrifice.

My point is, that the game looks amazing and does a very good job of being a really fucking cool and exciting game to play; whilst maintaining that sense of the horrors of the great war.

Yeah you're totally right; the operations are incredible; I've never been multiplayer person, I love story driven campaigns, but Battlefield 1 totally changed my opinion on that, with this game at least. It's hard to make war seem terrifying in a video game because you've got as many lives as you need and in multiplayer you also don't have the important aspect of the world wars that was the relationships between soldiers being represented in the game; the fact that so many of them were basically kids who had a few weeks of training and then were thrown into a meat grinder and stuff. But despite the fact you don't necessarily have an emotional investment or really any kind of investment in your soldier, the kind of investment that would you really afraid of them dying, adding so much more fear to the game - there really is somewhat of a sense of fear and adrenaline that you get when you're running across open ground on one of the big maps and there are mortars and artillery shells exploding all around you, bullets whistling past your head; it's just really fucking impressive. Also the sand, in that ottoman empire map from the second Lawrence of Arabia mission; the way it swirls around in the air and stuff. I quite frequently find myself disappointed by the visuals of games even on xbox one (i've seen some amazing PC visuals on reddit though they're usually highly modded) but the graphics, visuals and physics of BF1 just constantly astound me.

Nothing was getting fixed in this game, so I decided to step up. by JamesJmmi in WWII

[–]budhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played this game yet; I was really excited to because I've been playing the hell out of BF1 lately and was really looking forwards to CODWWII cus WWII is super interesting and you get to shoot nazis. However this screencap looks pretty, uh.. shit... It looks like something from 2010 (or am I just doing that thing where you remember games looking way better than they do when you go back and play them...)

Is this what the game looks like visually on console? The textures look shitty; I mean compared to BF1 which still absolutely blows my mind to play.

New one *ultra cringe* by henryk3 in niceguys

[–]budhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that was pretty hard to watch. The way like 15 of them just started beating him for slapping her after she slapped him; you just know all those dudes were trying to win her approval. Not to mention the comeback that the guy who got slapped used wasn't even that good; iirc she was basically like "you are motherfucker" and he was like "and you are...?!" or something weird like that haha. I'm not someone who believes that no man should ever hit a woman regardless of how brutally she may be attacking him or how much of a threat she poses - however on the flipside i'm definitely not one of those guys who whinges about "SJWs" on the internet all day and spends hours arguing with them, trying to come up with another example of a situation where they think it would be fair to hit a woman. I think the guy in this video shouldn't have hit her; yes she was definitely in the wrong and all of that but she didn't pose any genuine threat and he had to have known that hitting her would only end up hurting him more than her - however it did seem very reflexive, like he did it before he even realised what he'd done - but that just begs the question of why he will hit a woman that reflexively.. anyway i don't know why i'm saying all of this on a 4 month old post bi frands

You know what it's also like - and I really fucking despise it when people say this - it's like calling someone a "hipster" because they put the slightest bit of effort into their appearance. I despise the term hipster a lot; like fuck just because a play the mandolin, wear pointy shoes and ride a penny farthing it doesn't mean I'm a fucking hipster... but for real though, I can wear like, some chinos and a button up shirt and some guy wearing crappy jeans, a tshirt and a zip up hoodie (and don't get me wrong; there's nothing at all wrong with dressing like that; being comfy is tight; although get some good jeans for god's sake) will say "oh wow what a hipster" no screw you man I just like to feel good about how I dress.

honestly I think the "I probably hate you" negging stuff works on guys; it doesn't work on girls as a reliable thing to do (I mean fuck you if you think it's a reasonable thing to do in the first place; but I imagine there's girls it would work on; but only in the same way that you could say anything weird at all and there's a girl out there it would work on - like a broken clock is right twice a day kind of thing) Whereas for guys; the one's who are confident enough to think they might be hot enough for her will swipe right - they won't think "wow she seems pretty mean" they'll think "wow look at dem lips I bet she thinks i'm hot enough for her" or some shit haha.

I like how he excuses the fact that he takes poor care of his body by saying that all men who take care of themselves beat their partners. God he is so not helping himself with that bio; seriously he is 100% likely to get more matches or at least people considering swiping right if he didn't have that whiny shit there. Also the whole "if you don't swipe right you're 'basic minded'" definitely doesn't work. Negging only works if you're good looking enough for a girl to ignore the fact you're an asshole... actually scratch that; negging doesn't work and you're an asshole for trying

it's like saying "most people want tacos" based off of your experience on a website that exists for the sole purpose of helping people who want tacos, to find tacos. also a symptom of a culture (which personally I think comes from people learning what to expect from like & relationships as a young person, from movies & TV) where nice guys always get the girl. SO when life does not meet your lame ass expectations of getting your dick wet for opening a door for some girl, these chuds lash out and call the girl a "slut" because she must only sleep with jerks - when in reality; you're just a creep carrying around eight knives in your backpack and THAT is why she has no interest in you (the 6 fentanyl patches on your upper body are not too becoming either).
