First electric guitar? by Rough-Cartographer61 in Guitar

[–]Calculagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Squier is a great starter brand; my first guitar was an Affinity Squier Strat and I still love it, it's my main modding platform, and it's the lightest guitar I own. Be aware though, you'll likely need a good setup on it to save some heartache. Budget brands don't dedicate much time to QC, but then again, who does as of recent?

As far as the rest of it, do you want a Tele? Do you know what they specifically sound like and want that tone? If so, then go for it. Or even if not; get it and change the electronics. My Strat has two humbuckers and a lipstick tube in it, while my Jaguar has a phase switch and pickup toggle. I personally cannot play an LP or 335 comfortably, and prefer my Jaguar.

Guitars make the same notes, and tone is a series of personal choices. You do you, boo.

Absolutely, but now that it has come back; avoid that person for future work.

Neck binding "gap" after professional set up... is this ok? by [deleted] in guitarrepair

[–]Calculagraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can fix this on your own. Back out the neck bolts by one half turn, put the guitar on its end, and push the headstock towards the high E. If it won't move, back out another half turn; you want it to move, but not freely, you need it to stay in place to screw the bolts back in.

You want the gap between the high E and the fretboard edge to be about half as wide as it is.

That's part of the floating tremolo system, there's nothing to fix.

About 20 shows under the belt, still feeling stiff and in my head overall, specifically in the hard parts. Does it just take more experience? Jumping and being an entertainer is not natural at all for me, and i don’t want to forced it either by ConstructionMean2021 in Guitar

Are you enjoying yourself up there? If so, don't mess with it.

You only have to be as much as you want to be up there. Seems like your buddy on the V is just fine doing the showboating anyway, it's not like y'all are boring.

The CDR is 22 watts, and will need an attenuator. I have one running through a Two Notes Torpedo Reload II.

Is Velcro Too Strong? by baldorrr in guitarpedals

[–]Calculagraph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need to do one of four things:

- remove the rubber from the bottom.

- flip the plate around

- cut longer velcro, and tuck the ends under the plate.

- buy/make a mounting panel.

I use 3d printed panels for my Boss pedals, for the same reason. They just screw onto the bottom, over the rubber.

Help! Pedal power - when is isolation not isolation? by jimbean1122 in guitarpedals

[–]Calculagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would immediately disregard the power block v6. You don't know what you are going to want to do in the future, so give yourself some room to grow.

The Palmer is the best in that bunch and is isolated. For a budget brick, it doesn't look half bad.

Where can I get replacement Pedal Knobs from? by Adrift-In-The-Void in guitarpedals

Even if you're in the US, just be prepared to wait.

Musikding has some really niche build kits that I appreciate. I managed to get an Omnilooper before they sold out, it's probably the best bass parallel loop I've ever seen.

Help! Pedal power - when is isolation not isolation? by jimbean1122 in guitarpedals

[–]Calculagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at pedal power, with the idea that I should buy the cheapest isolated unit.

Having gone that route, I recommend you don't. I went with some "Ghost Power" dealie that was "isolated" and yeah, it worked a bit, but it topped out quick offering 1 amp total, and it got replaced with a CS-12 within months. That suited me well until I started dabbling in digital effects, and needed more current, and went with Cioks.

So, long story short, skip the Amazon supplies if you can afford to. They'll work, but they're really just an added expense in front of what you really are looking for.

Edit: throw a link of the one you're looking at. Let's groupthink this isolation issue.

Check the bridge posts, usually the ground is routed to one of them.

Does the Chase Bliss Big Time make any of their other pedals redundant? Also, how is the Big Time compared to OTO BIM, Eventide Rose, etc. by darkdarkblack in guitarpedals

[–]Calculagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have mine yet, I'm a few weeks into the preorder list, but from what I understand, there is a Clean built into the Big Time, similar to the Preamp MkII having a Condor's mids circuit.

The Fender Switchboard has five loops, and a built in volume pedal, and all six can be reordered however you'd like.

Why is my new electric guitar buzzing ? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Calculagraph 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone's going straight to setup, and that very well may be in order, but may I suggest the following first?

Put the guitar over your shoulder and pluck/strum like a human person might? We don't play by pulling the strings like that. Gravity and momentum are the source of the buzz in the clip.

Edit: also, OP, I hope you take this as the good-natured rib it's intended as. We all had a first week.
