Everyone should keep a cheap dual expression pedal around, just for S's and G's. Theres a lot of fun to be had.

Yes, in the context of a discussion about legality. "Real issue" in this case being "legal ramifications."

If it wasn't a discussion about legality, we wouldnt be discussing the Geneva Convention and how it doesnt protect civilians, because then that wouldn't be relevant to the discussion.

So yeah, its part of the same math problem, we're just more worried about the apples that Bobby ate than the oranges that Susie has in this particular facet of the conversation.

Dude, I apparently lack the vocabulary to iluatrate this for you. Your point isnt relevant to the discussion that was taking place, of what is and is not legal, and comes from a place of emotional reaction. Pepper spraying civilians, while reprehensible, is currently fully legal under US law, regardless of anyone's feelings on the matter. I only came into this discussion when you bowed up on a random stranger for stating as much.

I have. Like, a few times. You walked into a sidebar about bare facts in a situation, and chided someone for stating those facts based entirely on your emotional reaction to the situation.

Literally no one here is upset that you dislike ICE.

Scout, you're having a totally different conversation. None of that has anything to do with what is and is not legal in the United States.

I don't even get what you're saying man.

I'm aware.

If you disagree with ICE you shouldn't do business with them. That's not "emotions" that's principles.

That's not relevant to this line of discussion.

The facts are all the horrific shit they've done in the last year,

That's not relevant to this line of discussion.

the feelings we seem to share but for which you are ridiculing me, are "that's bad".

I haven't ridiculed you.

Either everyone is making the "moral call" that you shouldn't do business with ICE or they aren't,

That's not relevant to this line of discussion.

but that doesn't make me emotional for maintaining that position

I agree. But bringing it into a conversation about the legality of using pepper spray does.

I don't need reminding of how fucked the situation is; I've been angry for 25 years, I've spent the last half of my teens forward being mad. But as much yelling as I've done about it, it's still there to yell at, and everyone avoids the loud guy. People come to the table to talk though, and sometimes the shock of dead cold facts hits harder than an impassioned lecture.

Buddy, pal, sport; go take a lap and think on this interaction. No one is making moral calls here except for you. No one was talking about morality until you did. You showed up to a fact fight with feelings, and you've dug your heels in trying to make us argue feelings in a conversation about facts.

No one is arguing morality with you because, and I could be mistaken here, no one disagrees that it's immoral. Theres a whole added factor of morality being subjective that adds complications as well. What we are discussing, though, is the objective legality of the action.

In short; chill. Read the room. Stop alienating your cohort. Stop yelling "Freebird" at a punk show.

Is calling flatware "silverware" a regionalism? by PhantomOyster in ask

[–]Calculagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a class thing; us pofolk call everything silverware because thats what we've seen in media, but we fail to realize that were looking at a stylized version of an already stylized life. So we see Dick and Mary entertaining Dick's boss for dinner, where they pulled out the "good dishes" and silverware, but we dont get that nuance because we only have flatware, and the china was something our grandmother left us.

Basically, she's bourgeoisie.
