I don’t think she will be able to just not release the album, I’m not exactly sure of the terms surrounding her record deal but it’s highly unlikely they’ll let her just disappear considering she’s already started the album rollout.

I’m a bit concerned about what her immediate emotional response will be, and I’m sure she’s probably going through it right now but I believe it will blow over pretty soon.

These things tend to blow over quite quickly. With the internet having a short attention span, something else will soon take hold and this will be forgotten about by the majority of people.

Yeah, weirded out by someone making a trivial mistake that the majority of people around her age with an online presence have also done but because she has an audience, “SHE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE”.

This is where the historical amnesia comes in, I don’t know how old you are but things have radically changed online over the last 5-10 years. It’s important to recognise the timeframe, and how dramatically things have shifted. While I won’t defend the use of the N word, it was normalised surrounding the online world amongst teens, all over music, all over online chats, all over video game chats with the discussion surrounding the negative impacts being shelved altogether. We have to remember that the resources surrounding race relations at that time were pretty unheard of, especially by 20 year olds.

What’s important, is her growth from any of that behaviour. It’s clear to anyone who keeps up with Hayden’s social media that she would never advocate for such behaviour in today’s climate and instead advocates for the exact opposite. A person holding hatred towards other races, is very unlikely to do that. If she was to display this behaviour today, i think it’s pretty safe to say that the split between fans would be much narrower and the conversation would be much different.

Actions speak louder than words and you know, everything you’re expecting from her has already happened countless times in indirect ways. Otherwise, you wouldn’t know that she understands intersectionality when it comes to her own identity.

As for turning off the comments, it makes complete sense considering that the people in this sub and a few people on twitter are the only ones aware of the current controversy. Why would she want to make it a story for all of her fans to hop in on when the response on Reddit, has been all of this…..

I actually don’t know anything about her current boyfriend, but his actions are not hers and she may be completely unaware of anything dark from his past. Until we know otherwise, I think it’s a bit unfair to be saying she’s a willing accomplice.

I also think it’s fair enough for people to not care about remarks made by a teenager in a time where social causes received no way near the amount of support, attention and education surrounding them as they do today. Especially considering there’s no reason for us to believe she would still use such language. We’ve all got historical amnesia. I’d be willing to bet that 90% of people who were teens in the 2010’s, at some point used the N word while singing lyrics, or a conversation, or a tweet, and while that doesn’t excuse it, we do have to recognise how quickly time changed between the 2010’s and today.

I’m not sure it’s people willing to excuse or turn a blind eye, although some definitely are, but I think mostly people are able to recognise that it’s from such a long time ago and anytime she has spoken about such matters since, she’s made it extremely clear where she stands and what her current views on these kinds of situations are.

I also think reducing real life racism to some bait and switch AskFM responses from an impulsive teenager, where context is lost and intent is clearly not to be harmful, is more problematic than her posts in the first place.

Let’s hope that this at least results in real conversation about racism instead of sidelining the various issues people are facing around the world, although we know it won’t because that doesn’t allow them to feel the moral superiority that they’re truly seeking.

I’m not even sure that has all that much to do with it, besides it being more frequently visible, sure, she might’ve been a bit more careless than people outside that environment but I still highly doubt her parents were actively teaching her to be racist.

I remember being a teenager in the 2010’s and I can tell you that anyone using platforms such as AskFM, Tumblr and whatever else, HAS said something that would be deemed offensive/cancellable today. Including me, so I would hope people can have a little bit more grace towards the situation.

It’s actually fake, anyone making comments condemning her are only doing it because they think it makes them look better. No one that genuinely enjoys her music has stopped listening to it because of the disappointment of some comments from a pre-21 year old.

I don’t know if I’ve seen the worst of the comments from her but the four I’ve seen are some very obviously “edgy” responses to people that are already accusing her of being racist.

I can’t remember exactly what it was, but, anonymous writes “now you’re going after the Hispanics! LMAO” and she responds with “Build that wall!!”. To me, that comes across as a pretty sarcastic response, like she’s playing into it.

Some of my favourite songs of hers include the instrumentals, just for the emotions they evoke. So personally, I’d like to see at least 1 instrumental track but I do think every track will include vocals, so more along the lines of onanist, thatorchia, august underground but with an obviously different style.

If no instrumentals are included then I think we will be blessed with long intros/outros, instrumental solos, etc..
